Rogers HTC Dream/Magic Android Timestamp Problem

We are not even a week after launch and already problems have been arising with the new HTC Dream and HTC Magic from Rogers Wireless. Our first problem was the lack of a soft keyboard, but that was promptly fixed by some very savvy users.

The most recent issue however is one that cannot be fixed by a mere download. This problem can only be solved by making voices heard!

The Problem

Many people have reported that their HTC Dream or HTC Magic receives text messages in Eastern time, no matter what time zone they are currently in. In other words, the time stamp on a received text message is not the correct time. Rogers’ solution thus far has been to switch the phone to the 2G Network and turn off 3G, which in my opinion is not really a solution.

One user has managed to get a near fix by calling in to Rogers Tech Support and having his text message package reset. You can see the results on this here:

I have called Rogers tech support who removed and reinstated my text plan in an attempt to reset something. It now shows the CORRECT time stamp in the list of threads (when you first press “messages”), however, when you click on the thread, the time stamp changes to the wrong time again. When you go back to the list of threads, it’s now wrong there as well.

So how do we fix this?

Well, there is only one way. If you have an HTC Dream or HTC Magic from Rogers, call in to Rogers Technical Support (1-888-ROGERS1) and make a case of this problem. The support representative you speak with will log the problem and submit it, which hopefully with enough calls, will get the ball rolling a little faster on Rogers’ end.

Do you own either the HTC Dream or Magic? If so, post below what province you are in and whether you have experienced this problem or not. Afterwards, call Rogers Tech Support and make them note this issue!!!

Im having the problem here in Nova Scotia.
I have to set my phone an hour behind so that my texts don't get jumbled.
    Using HTC Magic.
Also…the WiFi connection problem would be something worth tackling as well.

    PLEASE FIX!

    Thanks Rogers.

I have a Magic and I also have the time stamp problem. I have called Rogers about 5 times now about it and they keep pushing me off and I am getting very annoyed at this stage. If it doesn't work, does anyone know if Rogers is in breach of their contract with me…. it is a small problem but really annoying, I signed a contract with them and they aren't offering the service they promised….when I get someone I expect it to work 100%, not 95% and I just have to deal with it.

So I live in Saskatchewan, Regina.

hey, on windows mobile phones, it was simple registry to not trust the operator time to fix sms timestamps, there must be something similar for android phones

On my HTC Dream through Rogers in Victoria I found that the issue is said to be resolved in the latest android os image (ROM) update. Luckily I had just bought my phone so it wasn't a whole lot of work putting my settings and apps back on. The latest release fixed the issue for me.

HTC Dream has the same problem… try the app called Missed Reminder. It can monitor whether you have any SMS/MMS messages waiting and flash the LED red, blue, orange, green or pink. It works for me.

I live in new brunswick and have this problem. Also: my phone is always coming off of the network ! I have to manually put it back on several times a day.

I have HTC Touch Diamond with WinMo 6.1. Find extremely frustrating since there is no auto redial in this.

I’ve had the same problem with my original HTC Dream and the one they sent me to replace the “broken” one… for some reason the phone disconnects itself from the network randomly without letting me know, so about 5 or 6 times a day when trying to make a phone call or send a text message it fails and gives me no other explanation than “call/text message could not send” and would not work again until I restarted my phone, which was usually followed by a slew of missed calls and texts from the time my phone decided to be retarded. I will never buy another HTC product as long as I live.
