WiFi Finder – updated for tablet use

I just did an article all about the latest updates, but this one I wanted to hold out specifically.

WiFi Finder is a great app for essentially crowd-sourcing the location of free/paid WiFi locations.  Most of the times I’m going from home, to work, so I know there’s wifi there.  But what about when I go on a trip for work?  Will the hotel have it?  How about the coffee shop down the way?

This is where Wifi Finder is great (keep in mind you’d need the internet to look them up —  so do some reconnaissance work first).

And, recently they just updated the app to be more useful with honeycomb tablets — which makes sense, I’m more more likely in dire need of  wifi on a wifi only device.  And the update looks mahvelous.

It’s exactly what you’d expect out of a tablet sized app for mapping etc…

I’m looking forward to seeing how this app can become more useful, as there are lots of cities starting to provide wifi locally.  Shaw is expected to go ‘city wide’ wifi, or wifi hotspots.  In Thunder Bay there’s plenty of tbaytel wifi hotspots, and they’re hoping to build even more (our waterfront will be totally covered).

So an app like this will be entirely helpful.

If you haven’t already, go download now!

Interesting, I just installed it on my Transformer Prime… It does not seems to support the Nexus S (with ICS). lol.

But how can you use this app on a WiFi-Only tablet? You need this app to search for WiFi… hey hey!

yeah, like I said.. it’s something you’d use to do your homework on where things are BEFORE you’d go out… ah well.

For a situation where I hadn’t done my homework, I’ll briefly hotspot my phone, locate the nearest WiFi, and go there to save my phone battery and data plan.

This app is not supported on the Galaxy Nexus.  Don’t bother with it unless you are older hardware.
