Want a non-Canadian APK? [File Folder]

So, being in Canada we tend to get left out in the cold a fair bit.  No GoogleTV,  slow in getting phones, Google Voice, updates, etc…

And CES is the biggest tease of all, as we watch all this cool tech, but we know we’re not going to get any of it… *le sigh*

When we see some cool new app that’s released, and find out it’s only available in the States, part of me whimpers.  Remember all the hackery to just get netflix to work?  (it was several of our top 10 articles of 2011).

So, I’ve decided I’m going to start keeping a folder of all the APK files that are out there that we should have, but don’t, because of our Geography.

I suppose we should be grateful afterall, there are countries worse off, and I even remember when I got my first Android we didn’t even have access to paid apps yet!

Now, to cover my a** I’m only going to use APKs from FREE files.  Paid would be unethical, and illegal.

So, I’ll have all the files in a MINUS folder (easiest to share with non-users), and I’ll keep track of the catalog via a spreadsheet:

Or try just looking through Minus:

Now, sure you could set up the Market Enabler, or other such trickery to get them through the Market, but these can get you to quickly side load the apps.

Have a suggestion for an app for me to include?  Drop me a line.

If this is successful enough I might just make it a page on the site permanently.

Tried pandora but without a proxy solution… it won’t start. Anyone got pandora working? I got the splash screen but stick there. I have a Samsung Galaxy S phone.

you’re welcome!  was a real pain in the a** to get that error… now you can use Market Enabler if you have root… but this is simpler.

Fantastic! I had no idea Google Body existed… Mine now :P

Body and Music won’t work on my HTC Desire. Maybe they will work on GNEX. Thanks for the links!

Body only works on 3.0+ devices
Depends on the version of Music you install (why I gave 3… only one of them works on my phone – Gal S)

thanks, i have Music 4.09 but 4.1 wont install on my Desire. its ok tho, GNEX coming 2morrow :D

Can you include the new Slice app?

    • Anonymous

I live in the US and cannot download the apps for the Montreal Gazette or the National Post.  (Android Market says they are incompatible with my device.)  Could you please add links to download these free apps.  Thanks!
