As we all anxiously await the announcement of the HTC M7 which should happen on February 19, a couple of other HTC devices have leaked out. The two devices are currently named the HTC M4 and HTC G2 (no it’s not the same G2 that launched way way back…at least I hope not). The M4 looks to be a mid level device while the G2 looks to be more of an entry level device. Here’s the specs:
The M4 looks like it could a pretty decent device. Smaller screen for people who aren’t looking for that 5″ display. Processor looks decent and it’s coming with 2GB or RAM which is definitely a plus. It’s also coming with, what should be, an amazing 13MP camera. This one also come pre installed with Android Jelly Bean (hopefully 4.2 but likely 4.1).
The G2 is a little less exciting. Very entry level processor and only 512MB RAM. I think the biggest disappointment with this phone is that they’re loading it with ICS. HTC will likely say that the device hardware can’t support Jelly Bean but we’ve seen Jelly Bean run on entry level devices before so it’s not impossible.
The other strange thing about this leak is that HTC isn’t really holding to their plan to focus on high-end devices. When they released the One series last year, HTC said that they would turn their attention and focus on high end devices. After the One X and One S they proceeded to bring several entry and mid level devices to the market. And from this leak it seems like they’re still doing the same thing. Risky strategy. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out for them.
