Rogers Begins Receiving Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Shipments

Reports this week indicate that Rogers has begun to receive small shipments of the Android-powered Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It was just at the beginning of April that both Best Buy and Rogers began to take preorders for the Xperia X10.

By depositing $50 in-store at Best Buy, prospective owners could secure themselves an X10. On the other hand, while also providing preorders, Rogers was further offering customers a free Bluetooth headset and a chance to win two tickets to the FIFA World Cup!

Moreover, Rogers is furthering providing a free 16GB microSD Card.

The X10 is expected to launch on April 15, 2010 in white or black colors on the following prices:

$149.99 – 3 year agreement ($45 voice/data plan)
$449.99 – 2 year agreement
$499.99 – 1 year agreement
$549.99 – No Agreement

The one major downside to the X10 is that it is launching with Android 1.6. However, Sony Ericsson has indicated that even though the Xperia X10 will launch with Android 1.6, it will be upgradable:

What I hope to get across to you all, is that there will be a software update for Xperia X10 that will upgrade the complete Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform based on newer version of the Android OS.

It will not be “upgradeable” so much as it will receive some sort of upgrade… someday.

Besides the upgrade problem, there's the fact this device isn't true multitouch capable. Aside from looking foolish and not being intuitive when compared to many other devices, fast keyboard use is inhibited.

SE blogs pushed this device as impressive to your friends. Not so much about its utility. Says a lot.

But congrats to the FIFI ticket winner!

wish fido came up with anything.
i've been waiting for any of the canadian carriers to anounce they'll offer a nexus one (even if it's a higher price) just so i can play with it before i buy it.. but nothing so far…

Was pretty excited about this phone, months and months ago when it SHOULD have launched, with multitouch, and a proper functional keyboard, and when wouldn't have looked so silly launching with Android 1.6. SE really dropped the ball on this. When you're trying to pitch a high-end device to power users and early adopters, DETAILS MATTER.

i was also interested in the motorola from telus, but they've told me it won't work on fido, because telus=bell… i really want the nexus though. maybe when i se the EVO i'll want it,,, but for now: NEXUS unlocked is what is creeping up in my dreams
