WIND Mobile To Receive Motorola Milestone XT720?

A few weeks ago WIND Mobile Chairman Anthony Lacavera stated that the company would be launching one or two Android-powered devices through 2010. So far the statement has held true with WIND receiving its first Android device the Huawei U8100.

Now, to continue to support the upcoming Android statement, WIND may be receiving the Motorola Milestone XT720, the company’s second Android device.

The Motorola Milestone XT720 features Android OS 2.1, a 3.7-inch display, 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, integrated WiFi, and support for up to 32GB of memory with a microSD card.

No pricing and release date information is available yet, but WIND should be releasing this new device soon.

Not bad, certainly a step up from Wind's first Android offering, but a 550mhz chip in a ghz world is not particularly tempting either, especially with Flash playback on the not so distant horizon. When I first read the headline I was hoping against better judgment that this was the euro/Canadian version of the Droid 2, but sadly it looks more like the original droid/milestone, minus the keyboard and with an upgraded camera and some other window dressing. Engadget also claims the touchscreen feels like it has “too much friction” which if true could be a real deal breaker, especially considering there is no keyboard and Swype is pretty much the only way to go..

    Seems like it's 720mhz not 550mhz :)

I think it's nice to have more and more Android phones on different Canadian carriers even if they're not the highest end, as long as they're quality phones in their own class that is. Android is growing so rapidly that maybe it'll be the default go-to operating system for phone manufacturers of all smartphones, wouldn't that be something.

Well not so bad in that case, and clock speed isn't everything… though I'm sure the Galaxy S will still annihilate it in any kind of real-world performance. Still, looks like it could be a pretty solid device for Wind, good to see more decent Android choices out there especially without contract.
