Will Android Handsets be Coming to Fido?

With the Rogers announcement that two Android handsets will be coming starting June 2nd, a lot of people have been wondering the following: “What about Fido Users?” This is an excellent question that we’d all like to have answered.

The Fido “Low Cost” Image Does Not Include Android?

Rogers continues to introduce premium smartphones for cellphone users, such as iPhones, Blackberries, and soon Android units. Fido on the other hand, recently switched over to a “low cost” carrier to compete with other no frills brands from Telus and Bell.

With this change, it has become evident that Fido is slowly phasing out its premium smartphones as they are now a “low cost” carrier. So, with this in mind, will current Fido users get Android handsets? The worst thing anyone can do in Canada is switch to Rogers from Fido. It’s a painful, time-consuming process that can take its toll .

Taking Advantage of those Fido Dollars

Also, if Fido users are able to get Android handsets, long time users would be more than willing to cash in their Fido dollars towards a new HTC Magic or HTC Dream. If Fido continues to stay its course on cheap flip phones, it’ll be quite sad for those with large Fido Dollar balances.

    hopefully they do!!!.. or else i’ll have to wait 2 more years until my freaking contract expires.. grrrr..
    but Rogers had the iPhone first, then after a while Fido released them too.. so, hopefully they do the same for HTC Dream/Magic if not released on June 2..

    No, the iPhone was available on Fido on Day One when the iPhone was released in Canada… I should know: I got mine with Fido on launch day. But yeah, let’s hope we do get the Android phones on Fido soon. I wouldn’t mind trying out Android, but I don’t want to give up my Fido plan just to do so.

    If i didn't have a city fido contract i would have left this tired cell phone company a long time ago.
    I am so feed up with the games. Good contracts dated, cheap,tired phone selection.

    I don't see this practice changing anytime soon since rogers is calling the shoots!!
