Koodoo and Fido, for starters, offer no-contract services. Combine that with call-back and 5 anytime... please do the math. When new providers/services/prices show up within a year, breaking your contract will cost you a lot. Such costs are designed to keep you paying more even if another company could server you better for less.

Could you give me some examples because I'd really like to save money like you seem to do. Let's say I want to change phone after 1 1/2 I still don't understand how buying two 600$ devices will make me save over buying 1 device for 200$ and the other one for 600$

You can do that for much less without contract nowadays, and your device will be outdated way before any current contract ends. Why commit to a contract ?

I think I don't get what you mean. If I want a phone with a data plan and a voice plan with which I can use some minutes to talk, It will cost me around 50$/month anyway. So if I think I will keep the phone and plan for quite a long time why wouldn't I take the 50$/month contract and pay less for the device?

Remember never to buy into a three year contract. Voice + data @ 50$/month will quickly pay for an unlocked, out of contract, unlocked phone in ~10 months service. Get cheaper service / shorter contracts and buy the phone at full price. And don't buy at Rogers.
