Walmart Canada Selling The Google Nexus One?

The Google Nexus One was the one Android phone that tried to be different. Google worked closely with HTC to manufacture the hardware and they sold it factory unlocked, only through Google’s own website. Having no ties with carriers and running the stock Android firmware also meant this phone got the updates before all other android phones.

While a great concept, sales weren’t so hot and they decided to pull the plug on the online store and try selling it through carriers and retail partners. We haven’t seen anything from the big Canadian carriers  or any retailers that i’ve heard of indicating this will ever happen, but there may be another way of buying the beloved Google phone.

My source at Walmart New West here in Vancouver says their store now has 3 brand new Nexus Ones being sold for $650. That’s pretty much the price you paid after all the shipping charges and taxes back when Google sold the phone here. He doesn’t know of any future plans to bring in more stock but if you live around that area, better jump on it before it’s gone!

I’ve already contacted Walmart about this and will let you know if they’re selling these anywhere else.

It's nice to be able to discuss Android in Canada. Let's stir up some interest so that carriers start offering yummy devices such as the Droid X or the HTC Evo…

I can't wait to get rid of my 3GS !

ps: sorry for the unrelated post, I just needed to get it out of my chest

It's be awesome if Walmart started carrying Nexus one. Image how hard it would be to deny Android's popularity (in Canada) if you could just go to a walmart and pick up a great handset!

Kmart in the States sells a “Augen Gentouch 78″ Android tablet for $150 so who knows what can happen if people are willing to buy!

That's okay. I sold a 3GS for my Nexus One and never looked back. This is the perfect place to talk about these things, I love hearing everyone's thoughts and experiences :-)

whats with the ridiculous price? arent samsung galaxy s phones going for 500 bucks or less off contract? and they are better in every single way over a nexus one.

It's how much it cost to get it shipped to Vancouver when it was sold online. The Nexus One's hardware is aging (originally released in January in the U.S.) but still remains the one with 2.2 Froyo and a guarantee to get future updates day one, which makes it valuable to some people.
