Telus To Launch Motorola Milestone On January 26th?

In early November 2009, it was reported that the Motorola Milestone was to be released on Telus sometime in early January 2010.

Earlier this week, MobileSyrup received a tip that Telus was to launch the Milestone on January 26 2010. The tipster said that the Milestone is scheduled for the 26th so long that everything is “on time”.

However, anonymous tips aside, an official comment from Telus indicated that the Milestone was not to be released for January 2010. So it will be interesting to see what happens with Telus and the Milestone in the next two weeks.

Stay tuned.

The Canadian wireless industry has an Android problem.

I've been watching Android with great interest since the Google first announced the platform, and I'm seeing the same pattern repeating over and over again: By the time any Android device finally makes its way to Canada, a better one has already been released in the US.

I thought about buying the Magic, then the Hero, then the Milestone. But in each case, I know that even if I buy on day one, my phone will actually be obsolete before I get it. That's depressing, and it doesn't really make me want to drop hundreds of dollars and commit to a multi-year contract.

The Milestone is still a drool-worthy phone. I played with a Droid briefly in December, and it's a really nice piece of hardware. But the reviews seem to suggest that the Nexus One is much snappier and the camera is much better. And of course, it fits better in the pocket. How can I buy a Milestone without laying hands on a Nexus One, or even knowing if it will be an option for me in the not-too-distant future?

I'm sure the majority of consumers don't follow Android news the way we do, but if we don't buy, who will the early adopters be? Will there be any word-of-mouth for the average consumer to pick up on?

I'm afraid that Telus, Bell and Rogers really need to get a grip on this.

Just curious… Telus is a CDMA network and the Motorola Milestone is a GSM phone. Something seems awkward, or am I wrong?
