Telus Motorola Milestone 2.1 Update Now Available

Good news for Motorola Milestone owners! Late yesterday, Motorola released the Android OS 2.1 update for the Milestone for users on Telus. The update was originally delayed with no given time frame, but Motorola has now made good on its promise.

Unfortunately the update is not OTA (over-the-air) and will required a download and clean install. To download the 2.1 update, follow the instructions below:

1.) On your web browser, navigate to Motorola’s Download page (http://direct.motorola.com/ENS/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=CND&language=ENS&web_page_name=SUPPORT).

2.) From the drop-down menu, select Telus and Milestone

3.) Accept the agreement and begin download

Some of the enhancements delivered by the Android 2.1 updated are listed below:

  • Animated wallpapers
  • Multiple Home Screens (up to 9)
  • Facebook App and widget
  • Google Maps Updates
  • Help Center app
  • Bluetooth Support
  • Security updates
  • Music Player updates to support album art in landscape

Hmm, I'm gonna try but have mixed feelings. My Milestone was from Telus and unlocked and used now with Rogers.
Is someone there with the same issue and more advanced than I to help?

I guess I'll have to root my phone after all. Telus, how is it possible that you still suck after all these years??? I knew getting into bed with you a second time would be a bad idea. 50% of the reason I chose the Milestone was for the promised voice recognition. Now I'm 50% more regretful for ever walking back into a Telus store.

I think you should know that the update is done by Motorola, not by Telus, the same could happen when Rogers releases their 2.1 update for their android lineup. You're angry at the person who provides you service, when you should be angry at the people who provide you the hardware (Motorola). Not having all the features that android has to offer is in part due to the nature of how android phones are. There are many different android phones out there made by many different manufacturers, with that said, there is bound to be incompatibilities.

Fair enough, but to be sure, the Telus guy told me that this phone was “exactly like the Droid with a different name”. Any idea what's different enough to prevent this function on the Canadian model, if it's not Telus?

I don't know tbh, maybe you're right, maybe Telus specifically told motorola to remove that particular feature from the update.

The Update is good but is missing speech to text in the android keyboard.
There is also a bug which will randomly start music playback, even if in silent mode according to your media volume settings.
