Sony Ericsson Says That Multi-touch Will Not Debut On Xperia X10

Over the weekend, rumors popped up indicating that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 may be receiving multi-touch in its second-half of 2010 update. That update, earlier announced by Sony Ericsson, is expected to bring Android OS 2.1 to the Xperia X10.

Bad news now comes from Sony Ericsson who have further indicated that multi-touch will not be coming to the Xperia X10, contrary to what many hoped and expected. Harold de Kort, Communications Manager at Sony Ericsson, stated the following:

…before the big update in the second half of 2010, Sony Ericsson will distribute some other smaller and bigger updates that will both improve the functionality and the user experience of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10… Multi-touch will not be a feature in future updates for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

The lack of multi-touch is attributed to hardware limitations of the Xperia X10. So it looks like we may have to shelf the Xperia X10, as the limited launch OS and now no multi-touch make other alternatives very lucrative.

“Debut” is not a good word to use in the title. It makes it sound like it will come out eventually. “Will not ever appear” would be a lot clearer. Other devices are not “lucrative,” since there's no money value, they are “appealing.” The SE X10 still probably has a much better camera than any other Android device, which is important to some, but this is beyond the analysis abilities of most blogs.
