Sony Ericsson debuts the Xperia Play, Neo and Pro; Xperia Arc and Play coming to Rogers exclusively in Spring
As expected, Sony Ericsson held their press event at MWC earlier today and announced three new smartphones. The Xperia Play as well as the Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro will all ship with 2.3 Gingerbread and Sony’s Timescape UI layer. Here’s what you need to know:
Xperia Play: 1GHz Snapdragon processor, Qualcomm Adreno 205, 4-inch, 854 x 480 multi-touch LCD. All this combined will provide 60 frames per second playback and up to 5 hours, 35 minutes of battery life in a single game session. Quad-band GSM or CDMA and EV-DO, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, LED flash, stereo speakers, Bluetooth and WiFi. The hardware is “Playstation Certified” as well as the slide-out controller. Over 50 launch titles will include Guitar Hero, Assassin’s Creed, Dead Space and Reckless Racing. Multiplayer gaming will be available as well.
Xperia Neo: 3.7-inch display with a 854 x 480 resolution using Sony’s Bravia graphics engine. 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 8-megapixel with LED flash, 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Available in silver, red, and blue.
Xperia Pro: 3.7-inch screen with a physical slider QWERTY keyboard, 854 x 480 resolution also using the Bravia graphics engine technology. 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front facing camera. Available in silver, red, and black.
Xperia Arc: This phone was originally announced at CES 2011. Sony showcased the phone again at this event due to its closer release date. 4.2-inch 854 x 480 display, 1GHz Qualcomm processor, 8-megapixel camera with HD video. Just 8.7mm thick at its thinnest point.
Canadian availability and pricing: The Xperia Arc and Xperia Play are coming to Rogers wireless exclusively this spring. Rogers released a press release today “the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY, the world’s first PlayStation Certified smartphone, and the Xperia™ arc smartphone, which will debut in Canada exclusively at Rogers™. The Xperia™ PLAY and Xperia™ arc are expected to be available in Canada in Spring 2011.” and that “Pricing will be announced at launch”.
