Samsung Promises To Fix Galaxy S GPS Issues This September

Got yourself a brand new Galaxy S and making all your friends jealous are you? Your GPS stop working as soon as you enter the office? Well, you’re not alone. This is a widespread problem all across Europe and the U.S. too and people have been complaining ever since they fired up Google Maps.

Lucky you, it seems to be just a software bug and one that Samsung is gonna fix for you! Samsung USA’s official twitter account has said there’s a fix coming in September that’s gonna make your problems go away. Let’s hope you Bell and upcoming Rogers owners also get this update alongside our friends over the border, because that’s really all we ask for sometimes.

That's gonna impact Roger's Captivate sales. At least until the update is out and Rogers is ready to push it out. I will not buy another android phone until either the htc desire gets froyo or the captivate. So let me see…Yeah I think I can buy an iphone 4 and keep that for about a year.
I really like the Android OS but I think the update system is a catastrophe.
Why can't the manufactures just give us stock Android? And why do carriers always have to approve the damn thing? Why can't it be more like Apple's updates for the iPhone?
I thought Android stood for openness…

I don't get what is taking Samsung so long. The phones had its world debut June 4th!!! It's been two and half months and Samsung has done NADA! The phones are cripples! Broken GPS, lagging throughout the UI…
Did Samsung even do any testing before releasing it?

Apple makes the hardware and software, which is why they have full control over their firmware releases. The Google Nexus One is the iPhone equivalent on the Android side, as Google had a part in making the hardware. I think part of openness IS letting manufacturers put whatever custom skin they like on their phone and whether this will be something that Google takes away with 3.0 Gingerbread to make their operating system is in debate. Nevertheless, as much as I always want to see the latest software on Android phones, the average consumer might not know or even care. I think this is even more true with lower end Android phones

this will not effect sales at all i have a Samsung S and it works fine… the GPS has issues if your inside.. ooooo big deal..also there are just a few settings in the GPS you can change and the issue is fixed their are manny write ups about this all over the internet. as for the I phone 4 it has a hardware defect…

Yeah, it's really only the enthusiast nerds like us who read blogs about Android who care about having the latest firmware bad enough to root our devices to get it. I do also see a problem with the way so many “new” Android devices are still launching with 1.6 these days though, while Google is making public announcements about voice control features and stuff that is only available in 2.2 which only a handful of phones are officially running, plus the rooted ones. I can see average users getting excited about new software features which by all rights their phones should be able to use, but then they can't use them because the manufacturer / carrier isn't bothering to release updates in a timely manner (or at all) because they're perpetually focused on the latest and greatest.

What you're reading on the internet is not a fix it's – if at all – a band aid. And if the software issue does not get fixed it's just as bad as a hardware issue.
I've played with several iPhone 4s. There is definitely a hardware defect, however, if you don't squeeze the phone in your hand NOTHING happens.
So right now the iPhone 4 is the more competent phone. Not saying that I prefer because I do want an Android phone…but right now the Samsung has many issues: GPS, lag, battery, crappy UI

    well said.

That's what I'm going to do. Get the iphone and then get Android later. I really love Android but, there are WAY too many issues especially here in Canada with the hurry up and wait both for devices, fixes and updates.

Love the Samsung screen! Would have loved a Desire with the same screen as was sold in the U.S. but, nope….Android has too many issues here. What a pita!
