Samsung Galaxy Tab Revealed, Coming To Canada “This Year”

We knew it was coming, and it did. Samsung showed off their latest Android tablet at the IFA trade show in Berlin. The Froyo running 7-inch Galaxy Tab will launch in Europe around the middle of September and according to Marketnews, Canadians are looking at a release later this year.

This tablet can actually make phone calls including video calls so it’ll be really interesting to see how they’re gonna roll it out. I’m hoping that even if there is a subsidized carrier version, an unlocked version will also be available on the side for us that don’t want to sign yet another agreement.

The people lucky enough to get their hands on it have been impressed and this seems to be the most promising Android tablet at the moment. Samsung has built tablet specific apps to go along with their touchwiz interface so the screen real-estate will be used more efficiently. Some features will only work in Europe for now such as the Samsung App Store.

The Android Market is running on this tablet and according to Samsung, all applications developed to Google’s app standards will be fully functional on the Galaxy Tab which is very exciting. Anyone wanna take a guess on which Canadian carrier this is gonna land on (if any?)

I think 0 (zero) is an accurate estimate of the number of canadian carriers who will offer this device.

Kinda looks like you were wrong after all, and Crylo was infact right about the phone capabilities!

I’d be really surprised if this was coming to Canada this year. Unless it’ll be offered by Samsung Canada directly get ready for a loooong wait.

Sounds like Dell with Streak. They will go around the world before being able to offers this kind of “new” tech here.
1- It was too long before getting in to the market.
    2- It was too restricted,
3- It will not be a new thing then and we will again wait for the “new” new device to come into here. etc…

WHY Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and other gamer console are able to be sold just before Christmas or the day before “back to school” and this kind of thing was so long..

    Marketing or what ?

Yeah.. just like Rogers has been all set to release the Galaxy S Captivate “in the coming weeks” since the beginning of August.. hurry up and wait as usual for Canada.

Keep in mind that with the non standard screen resolution, not all apps from the marketplace will be available, or usable. If they really want to be competitive with a tablet, it’s my belief that they must keep a standard resolution.

Rogers has a data plan for iPad at $15/month for 250MB, and it’s completely prepaid (great for people who are around WiFi most of the time, but want WAN connectivity occasionally). I would expect the Tab to get the same treatment.

Other than that, the have a $7/wk for 125MB prepaid option. This is a very affordable option for the Tab as it doesn’t require yet-another-data-plan.

This will come out in November for sure, and I’m sure the Canadian version will have the cell phone version intact unlike our American counterpart.
