Samsung Galaxy Apollo Coming Soon?

This week, reports point to Samsung soon launching the Galaxy Apollo, a mostly mysterious Android-powered device that is rumored to be picked up by Telus.

At this time, the Galaxy Apollo made a brief appearance during a Back-to-School product lineup email, which also featured the Samsung Wave and Galaxy S Vibrant.

While the Back-to-School email almost confirms that the Apollo is heading to Canada, there has been no information regarding pricing and more importantly, a release date.

However, some of the tech specs of the Apollo are available:

  • Android OS 2.1
  • Built-in WiFi
  • 3.2-inch AMOLED display
  • 5-megapixel camera with video
  • New Swype text input

Samsung: Instead of releasing new hardware every 3 minutes, how about giving us an elegant piece of hardware and then focus on the software (aka give me some Android updates). I know you want to sell phones, but this just makes me want to buy an HTC next time.

Zzzz… boring. When are we getting bigger & smarter phones? Sad to say but iPhone 4 is kicking Android ass in Canada right now and nobody's doing anything to stop it.

The Samsung Captivate coming to Rogers should change that. To be honest, this piece of hardware looks to be simply amazing.

So painfully true man: it's like we're Android's 3rd world market. I wonder if the best devices make it across to Europe.

Why will none of our dear telecom companies get in the bandwagon ? Are there technical issues ? I'm not sure what supporting the latest Android OS version involves for the carriers.

Maybe they are manipulating the market ? If so, why would that be in their interest ?

I'm waiting for the first real killer Android handset from any carrier to get rid of my 3GS.

I'm in the market for a new phone and I really wanted to go with Android but, the phone choices here are not what I thought they might be. Desire? For Canada there is NO Amoled screen which I really liked. No EVO equal that runs on 3g. I preferred one of the larger and brighter screened Androids but, so far NOTHING. And Samsung is tied to Bell ONLY at least for the first month. That's a lot of money to lay out for a second best device.

I agree, I think the market is being a bit manipulated.

I didn't really want to go with iphone 4 but, for now I think I am going to. It isn't as big as the EVO I'd REALLY love but, it has most of the other features I need. I'd prefer white but, can't get that either lol.

You know they are expecting us to lay out big bucks for these things then they give us limited choices and the most expensive cell phone plans in the world.

I kept holding off on getting a phone thinking Canada would get a top of the line Android but, so far I'm NOT impressed.

Iphone is kicking butt here because Android is not stepping up to the plate. Android is a better OS imho but, who wants to buy a five hundred dollar phone that isn't top of the line Android? Plus, the slow update thing and high cell phone rates……big whoop Android.

We're two years behind here at least and that's why iphone is still ahead here because Android choices are not enough yet to pull that many people away from iphone. Sad.
