just conacted htc regarding the new update to the Rogers Magic and here is what they had to say..

Thank you for contacting HTC Support.

HTC is not currently planning any Android 1.6 or higher upgrades for Rogers Dream or Magic. Android 1.6 or was only made available for “Google”-branded devices such as the G1. It is not available for HTC-branded products such as the Dream or Magic, which use Android 1.5. We believe that Android 1.5 is a stable and reliable software platform that delivers a terrific user experience. To ensure we consistently deliver a great experience, HTC and Rogers will shortly be releasing updates to both Dream and Magic software that address a few issues and provide some enhancements. Please check the Rogers or HTC Canada websites for details.

Once again, thank you for contacting HTC Support.

Regards,

HTC Support

Until Rogers & HTC come up with some type of compensation for Dream users whether it be exchange of handsets, early termination of contracts or software upgrades this will not go away.Rogers and HTC are selling a outdated phone that they are not even willing to support and the phone should be pulled from their lineup or given away free with full disclosure of the issue and Rogers HTC Dream customers should be offered a compensation considering is very obvious the customer was mislead into what they were buying.

You are correct, I was wrong about the dream, it only has the same amount of ram as the g1 in the states (192MB), so there is possibly good reason why 2.1 won't work on it.

Did you look on the HTC site before making this comment? It clearly states that the Dream on Rogers has 192Mb of RAM and 256MB of ROM. The Magic on Rogers has 288MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM. So the Dream on Rogers is exactly the same as the G1 in the US, it's the Magic on Rogers that is better than the MyTouch on T-Mobile. Check your facts before commenting.

It's total baloney that the dream can't be upgraded as unlike the US version, the rogers version has the same amount of ram (256MB) as the magic. The G1 on t-mobile has 192MB, so it appears someone at rogers read the incorrect specs.

Anyway it's too late for me, I am fed up with the lame excuses for the past 6+ months from the idiots at rogers and will be canceling my phone service and moving to wind, and if rogers gives me any lip about etf I will take them to court (nexus one ftw!).
