Rogers Releases Navigator App For Android

This month, Rogers has officially launched their Navigator app for Android. The Navigator application is a re-branded version of the previous Rogers TeleNav service, which first launched on iPhone and is now available for Android.

Features

Navigator for Android features 2D or 3D color maps, available in both landscape and portrait display modes. The maps are further available in day or night modes.

Like TeleNav, maps include automatic map updates and also automatic updates for business listings. Maps further include pedestrian route enhancements and choices to avoid toll roads.

Navigator for Android also features real-time traffic alerts with one-touch rerouting. At this time, traffic support is available in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa. For additional user friendliness, Text to Speech (TTS) can be used for driving to a destination. For example, pressing a button and saying where you want to go.

Users may also pre-plan their trips online at www.rogers.telenav.com

Pricing

Rogers Navigator for Android is available in the Android Market for $4.99/month for Canada-wide navigation. The cost of the app is in addition to your monthly data plan.

Is this why Google's free navigation app won't work up here?

I have given up all hope that Google Nav is coming to Canada now.

I checked the android market place and found nothing under 'rogers', 'navigator' or 'rogers navigator' on my magic. After looking at the rogers website it appears rogers navigator is only available for the iphone and the only thing available for android is 'telenav gps navigator' which is $10 a month. Plus the link http://www.rogers.telenav.com pulls a 404. Perhaps this is pre-release info you have?

I cant find this on the market.

Enjoy the few dollars you make on this rogers. With the limited coverage you have to guess that only locals will buy it and then I have to wonder why the locals would always be lost month after month. meanwhile if I really needed nav I'll just use brut which is google maps made to run nav anywhere. It actually works if you like that kind of thing.

So we can't get the free version of google nav so that rogers can charge a monthly fee for a limited nav app? fail.

just say no to rogers extra fees.
