Rogers Prepping To Launch Samsung Galaxy Spica?

Rumors from the Rogers front point to a soon to be released Samsung Galaxy variant called the “Galaxy Spica”.

Bell customers will be familiar with the current Samsung Galaxy, available for $49.95 on a 3-year agreement, released late last year. There is no Rogers pricing yet for the Spica variant, but $49.99 or $99.99 on a 3-year agreement is likely.

Some of the Galaxy Spica specs are as follows:

  • Android OS 1.5
  • 320 x 480 3.2-inch TFT
    display
  • 5.0 megapixel camera with auto-focus, LED flash and video
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • WiFi, GPS
  • 183MB internal memory
  • Up to 32GB of storage with microSD
  • Considering the tech-specs of the Galaxy Spica, the Android 1.5 OS, and the availability of other (and better) Android devices, this is a less than stellar Android device for Rogers to be launching.

Oh Rogers…this phone is soo last year. Where is the Nexus One? Why do you always give us last years crap when everyone knows that there is much better stuff on the market? Telus has the Moto Droid running Android 2.0 and you bring out this crap with 1.5 and expect people to buy it? Many Android apps are not even supporting 1.5 anymore and with the rumor of the pad apps market coming to Canada (for non-rooted users) just around the corner, this is just disappointing to say the least. For shame Rogers, for shame.
