Rogers HTC Android Pricing Revealed at $199 on 3 Year Contract

Looks like someone has apparently “leaked” some Rogers Android pricing to the BGR. According to their reports, the pricing for the following Android units are as follows:

HTC Dream: Available June 2nd, $649.99 no contract, 3 year contract @ $199
HTC Magic: Available June 2nd, $649.99 no contract, 3 year contract @ $199

Both phones will be limited in quantity during the launch, and more stock should be coming as of June 12th.

Our own little ninja has told us that both Future Shop and Best Buy will get HTC Android phones in black and white colors, while Rogers stores will receive ONLY black units at launch.

Android vs Next Generation iPhone?

These Android units at $199 on a 3 year contract is in direct competition with the iPhone. There are reports that Apple is going to release the next generation iPhone with similar price points, so it’ll be interesting to see how HTC units will be affected by the new phone. One thing is for sure, Rogers is going to have a very profitable summer!

what I expected. My only beef is the data plans. I think it’s crap that iphone users were initially able to get that 6gb plan for $30 a month, and now if you want an HTC android phone you will pay $30 a month for 1gb.

Who do we complain to? I think for new devices like this they should have that 6gb promo plan available for the first month, or even week, to the users who want the phone on day 1.

Yes, I realize “typical” use doesn’t come anywhere near 1gb a month, but it’s probably safe to say the average person reading this site won’t have typical usage. Rogers, throw us nerds a bone!

I think Rogers might be re-introducing the 6GB/$30 data plan for Android devices! More to come!

after the prices being the same. which one is the better phone htc magic or dream. i am planning on getting it one the first day. bt cant decide which one to go for. any suggestions???

I would go for the HTC Magic, as it’s the second generation Android unit which would mean some more fixes. However, if you MUST have a physical QWERTY keyboard, the Dream might be for you. Try them both out in stores, then decide!!

I think it’s more of a toss-up. Both will have the Android v1.5 base OS, same screen, and the same clock speed.

      Points for Dream:
+Qwerty keyboard. Much faster than onscreen keyboard.
+Most android software developed for it since it was first

      Points for Magic
      +Thinner / Lighter
+Double the ROM for storing applications (512 MB)
      +More memory 288MB compared to 192MB
      +Slightly bigger battery

Personally, I’m leaning towards the Magic. If you like to send IM’s or texts, you’d probably prefer the Dream’s keyboard.
