Rogers Dell Streak Coming Early November

Is it a phone? Is it a tablet? Whatever it is, this 5″ Android device is coming to Rogers early next month. Orignally published in Rogers’ URMagazine and now Phandroid has put up an internal doc confirming this release with no pricing mentioned.

This phone got a release on AT&T in the US back in August for $299 on a 2-year contract and $549 without a term. The bummer? Even the off contract model didn’t come unlocked. I think it’s extremely unfair to the customer to be charged full price for a phone and not be able to take it on the carrier they like.

Many phones sold in Europe come unlocked, though they do tend to pay a bit more for their phones on average. We don’t really know how it’s gonna be when it comes to Rogers but I’m not getting my hopes up for Rogers to sell an unlocked model. What do you think?

It should be illegal for them to not sell it unlocked. If I buy a computer from Dell I can use it with whatever ISP I want, the phone should be no different. Rogers should be forced to sell unlocked devices. Actually in a perfect world I could buy my device anywhere and then shop for a network. Rogers will probably not unlock the Samsung Galaxy Tab either when they launch it. The one thing that will stop me from buying one.

for sure! it’s nonsense to pay so much when you’re still gonna be forced to use a carrier

I would wait for windows phone 7 instead of this monstreousity. plus the features will be grander and greater. this Dell streak looks ridiculous when held up to ear for speaking.

the problem with Dell streak is it’s from Dell. I know it’s on Android 1.6, any update plans?? Dell says yes. ok, but when??

thtat’s what I hate about companies who just use an android OS and forget about the phone. That’s why I don’t think I will go away from either HTC or Motorola. they seem to be the only two companies who keep giving timely updates for their customers. in other words, they are serious when using the OS on their devices. I really hope Telus gets the new milestone 2 or other company gets something similar to the droid X but GSM version. Those are phones that are worth owning coz you know motorola is gonna give away an update on a timely matter (even though Canadian market seems the last one to get those updates).

This thing was dead in the water the moment it was announced. The technology is already old. Plus, who would want to be caught dead with holding the Streak up to your face for a phone call? It looks ridiculous! ;)

It’s android, it isn’t locked to anything if you know what you are doing.

This phone is now obsolete for me, taked too much time to get here and I think method used to sale cell phone in Canada is ANTI-CONCURRENT.

Again Cell phone MUST NOT BE ASSOCIATED WITH CARRIER. WE PAY THE BIG PRICE FOR THE PHONE, GIVE IT TO US ENTIRELY.

When you purchase a computer nobody force you to take internet access from any one. Someone have to get the flag and do something about this !
