Owners of the HTC Magic or Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be happy to know that Rogers has confirmed that both devices will receive the Android 2.1 update.
The confirmation comes from one of the social media members of Rogers and states the following:
I just confirmed that HTC will deliver 2.1 for Magic for testing end of June. Acer Liquid will release w/ 2.1. X10 2.1 in Fall.
The Acer Liquid e was already launching with Android 2.1 and the X10 had rumors pointing to a fall 2010 update for Android 2.1. However, the Magic receiving the Android 2.1 update was not known!
This is good news for Magic/X10 owners!

They've already stated this. Why do we need a confirmation of their statement. Do we expect them to lie?
More significantly, why are people who buy their mobile handset on the free market (paying, say $600 up-front) content to pay an additional presumed $400 (about 20% of their monthly bill) over the next two years for a 'subsidized' plan?
Anyone?
Any news as to when Magic owners are getting the upgrade to 2.x?
Doh! I clearly did not read the post at all… my question was already answered. Apologies!
Not bad but it will be so much better if Rogers had gone for an already 2.1 device or even more an 2.2 device or at least a 2.1 with some … like Samsung Galaxy I9000 but maybe some day…..

I have the Magic and I hardly can wait to get the Android 2.1.
I don't understand why Rogers is not a bit more transparent with these kind of news (at least the good ones).
Totally! It’s a really slow phone so the updates with 2.1, with it’s presumed speed upgrade, will totally make me happy! Though I really hope they get something with the regular Android UI. Honestly, I’m not too big on the whole Sense UI…

So, now it is June 28… any word on when we will finally get this on our phones? I am *this close* to rooting.
June 30th. Rogers last day to keep its promise. I’m anticipating ball drop happening here.
Looks like Bell’s getting another customer.
