Rogers: “Stay Tuned…There’s Lots of Android Product Coming”

Fans of Android will be happy to know that this week, Rob Bruce, President of Rogers’ Communication Business, said in an interview to stay tuned with the company, as Rogers has “lots of Android product coming”.

The interview further indicated that the future Android-powered handsets would be coming from HTC and Motorola. At this time, we can only hope that the new Android devices will feature OS 2.2, or at the very least, Android 2.1.

“Stay tuned,” Rob Bruce, president of Rogers’ communications business, said today in an interview at the Canadian Telecom Summit in Toronto. “There’s lots of Android product coming” from handset makers including Motorola Inc. and HTC Corp. he said, declining to give a time frame.

Rogers started Android sales in Canada with the debut of the HTC Dream and HTC Magic, followed quickly by Telus and Bell releasing their own Android devices. Over the last few weeks, Rogers finished releasing a series of Android-powered devices from Motorola (the Quench), Sony Ericsson (Xperia X1), and most recently the Liquid e from Acer.

rogers: always too little too late

the only way i'll even consider staying with them is if they pull an htc evo out of their asses for summer release

  • Bill

Forgive me for all my instant skepticism when it comes to Rogers releasing any new Android products. Every month that goes by is one month closer to no longer being tied to my current contract, then it's adios to Rogers for good!

  • Andrew

    We need the EVO.

  • Rogersguy

Rogers just keeps dropping the ball. When will rogers start to walk the talk?!?!?!

  • @LakerCaptain

The best thing to do with any carrier in Canada is to buy an unlocked phone (ex. Nexus One) and just go month to month. Buying a subsidized phone under a 2 or 3 year contract is not worth the trouble. Be in control of your phone, don't let the carriers control you!

  • Jon

do you get data with month to month? I just cancelled my contract and will be waiting for whoever gets the EVO, and switching in a heartbeat… but I always thought month to month didnt give you data…

  • @LakerCaptain

I've got both voice and data on a month-to-month basis with Rogers on an unlocked Nexus One. Had no problems at all when setting up my account. The Rogers Rep did have the balls to ask me if I wanted to go with a 3-year, 2-year, or month-to-month contract – I laughed at her and said “guess”.

  • Bill

The only thing they'll pull is more b.s…. in typical Rogers fashion.

  • Bob

Rogers' selection of Android phones is pretty poor. All of their high end Android phones have Android 1.5 or 1.6.

I'm hoping Rogers gets a hold of the Nexus One this summer…

  • Seakins

Just out of curiousity – who might you decide to switch to ?

I was in the same position but have come to realize that being a relatively long term customer of Rogers (not by choice) I'll get better leverage with them than another carrier. After a hard look, I don't Wind is where it needs to be just yet.

  • jon

I was with bell before, and I would happily go back. In any regard, nothing can be as bad as the 911 mess that I went through with Rogers. Fucking retards.

I'm not sure who I would switch to at this point. And for me, it's not about leverage, it's about not wanting to give Rogers one more cent of my money than necessary. I have never had a good experience with Rogers. In fact, during my last round of crap with them, we had to escalate as far up to what they call 'the office of the president'. A complete joke, this company.

When they say phones from Motorolla and HTC i hope they mean DroidX, Evo or Nexus One, and not the bottom of the line mickey mouse crap they have now.

  • Sammy

  • Aaron
