Motorola Milestone Receiving Minor Software Update From Telus

The Motorola Droid is arguably the Android phone that brought the most consumer attention to Google’s operating system thanks to the Verizon Droid Ad campaigns. Some time after, Canadians were introduced the Motorola Milestone on Telus which was the equivalent of the Droid here in Canada.

With still one of the best Android phones with a physical QWERTY keyboard, many customers on Telus have got this phone. If you are one of these people, there’s some good news. Telus is releasing a minor software update for the Motorola Milestone. While there aren’t any big features, this update seems to fix a lot of the problems people have complained to me about.

Here’s the full list:

• Improved Stability
• Alarm Improvements
• Music Player Functionality
• Audio Quality Enhancement
• PIN Lock Improvements
• Proximity Mode Enhancement
• “My Location” Improvements

These updates don’t always get to everyone immediately so keep checking that software update on your phone. You can also do the update manually from your computer with this right here. With customers in the U.S. getting 2.2 this week, I wonder how long it will be until Canadian customers are treated to a bit of Froyo. We’ll keep our eyes out, let us know how the update works out for you.

[Thanks, Randy]

    Hahah, because it's not Froyo?

Froyo should be on this already, isn't it a vanilla UI like my nexus one? Why so long? Also, where is this Charm that Telus keeps advertising?

you are such a big deal, pedramilicious

These updates still have to run through the manufacturer and carrier since they are tied together. The Nexus One is factory unlocked and HTC has basically let Google control it any way that they like. I heard they're bringing the Charm by the end of summer! But don't get your hopes up too high.

Have you jailbroken your iPhone Ms. Emily?

Got his OTA from Telus yesterday. Initially a lot of screen problems with all icons disappearing from all home screens especially triggered by sliding out the keyboard (but apps still seen on menu screens & launchable from there), then the pattern unlock feature not working, lots of screen lag moving from screen to screen when it was working.

After 1 battery pull & about 5 or 6 reboots it all settled down & seems back to normal. The music playing unexpectedly has not happened (yet). I noticed that if the player (I use Cubed) is playing when the headphone jack is pulled out it continues to play via the speaker (used to stop). If the music is stopped prior to pulling the jack out it stays off (used to play about 50% of the time before the update. Maybe that's fixed now

wow. doesn't sound like a smooth upgrade at all, sorry to hear. Thanks so much for sharing though! At least the others will know it's not just them if things go wrong

Got the update Tuesday. Everything went well but there is still some bugs. Maybe someone here knows a fix ?

Bug 1 – I can't turn of the software keyboard (It just comes back on when I turn it off)
Bug 2 – Some apps tend to get on top of the lockscreen. So when the phone wakes up, I have to, let's say, pause the music, then unlock, then do whatever I want.

Anyway ! Great Site by the way, Merci !

Thanks for sharing. I'll see if my friend with that phone is having those issues. Hopefully someone on the site can beat me to it though
