Install 4.0.4 Google Apps On Your Galaxy Nexus (Download)

I posted earlier about the Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 changelog. You can find that article here.

Included in that change log were some outstanding features such as:

  • Holding down the camera button to fucus for those steady shots.
  • Browser performance noticeably faster
  • Keyboard fixes
  • Improved controls within the browser

Of course the 4.0.4 OS is not available for our GSM Galaxy Nexus, but the 4.0.4 Google apps flashable zip has surfaced for our pleasure.

With the 4.0.4 Google apps flashable zip, you will be able to take advantage of the feature listed above, including possible other undiscovered changes. I personally have flashed this on my own Galaxy Nexus and it’s safe. There is a down side however. You will be required to wipe your device then flash the 4.0.4 gapps.zip.

( Root Required ) Need help rooting your Galaxy Nexus? Check here for easy instructions

Download 4.0.4 Gapps

Instructions:

  • Boot in to ClockWorkRecovery
  • Wipe Data + Cache + Dalvik cache
  • Flash your favorite 4.0.3 OS
  • Flash the 4.0.4 Gapps immediately after
  • Finished!

It’s up to the user whether they can justify wiping their devices for these changes, but for those of us who are addicted to flashing roms, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Ah… does  “Flash your favorite 4.0.3 OS” mean ROM (ie. My Favorate Galaxy Nexus Rom) and a kernel.img, apps.img, and radio.img, etc.?  I’m confused as to what a ROM contains; if it’s complete, why is Gapps required?

Roms you would download on XDA I mean mostly. Those roms on XDA can’t include Google apps for some reason to to legal issues, so they make a 2nd zip to get past that

        Ah… got it.

Installed the SGN drivers on Win via xda GNex Toolkit v5.2 step 1.
Unlocked my bootloader, rooted, and flashed CWM via step 7 “1-Click For All”.

Installed Apex ROM zip file and Gapps via CWM Recovery menu.

        – so far so good.

Yep, I too use the Apex rom by bigxie, it’s my personal favorite.

How to tell they’re 4.0.4 and not 4.0.3 Gapps? Can I simply install 4.0.4 over 4.0.3 Gapps?
