In-app purchasing for Android unveiled, coming this spring

A big feature missing from the Android eco-system is in-app purchasing. Once you’ve downloaded an app, there is currently no method to buy more content or unlock additional app functionality without being forced to buy a seperate application. Thankfully, along with the Android Market web store announced yesterday at the Android event, Google is addressing this buying restriction with in-app purchasing.

Starting this Spring, users will be allowed to use this payment system right from any app and easily pay for an in-app purchase. Along with this feature launch, Disney Mobile is finally releasing their widely successful music game, Tap Tap Revenge for Android. They used their game to demonstrate the in-app purchasing function with songs and stated that it’s quite simple for developers to implement.

Google is releasing the SDK to developers today so they can start getting their applications ready for when it’s rolled out later this quarter.
