Make the HTC Magic the same price as the Samsung Galaxy and you've got a good deal there.

As for WIND getting an Android... I don't care what it is at the moment but I do care that they have an official one in their roster so they can stop blocking the data ports that Android uses for Gmail and other Google apps. My G1 on their 3G network is mostly useless right now with those ports blocked.

Good post, though a bit lengthy and gets a bit prickly, but I absolutely agree about branding and mini computers - I want my handset and my carrier to be just like my home Internet connection and computer, usable and upgradeable according to my reasonable needs. I do not want shiny non standard "proprietary" additions, I very specifically want a general Android device that can run the latest Android software.

The rift we are facing is between the enthusiasts and developers like ourselves, best served by a truly 'open' handset compatible with the latest changes, versus general consumers who just want a neato phone.

The good news is Rogers stated we can officially run any third party handset on their network, so the obvious course is to not buy your handset from Rogers and get something like a Nexus One that will not have strange lock down measures and will be constantly upgradeable. However it turns into an unfriendly, dysfunctional, annoying and unproductively expensive game (and certainly doesn't built any carrier loyalty) when you consider the model is built around 'subsidized' handsets and contracts. All these problems would be solved if Rogers would sell leading unlocked handsets at market prices and pro rated costs, as well as allowing third party handsets without requiring contracts and artificial subsidy fees.

As for the Magic+ on Wind, the questions I have are: 1. is it "Wind-branded"? and 2. Will it get the 2.1 update that the Rogers Magics are supposed to get?

Also, I wonder if these are Magics sent bacj to HTC by Rogers because of all the crap.

Not the greatest Android device Wind could be introducing. They should be getting the Nexus One not an already outdated device.

Would I switch to Wind? In a heartbeat, if they were available in Sask.

The Magic+ is an outdated device with poor features such as a two generation old processor, no standard headphone jack and a lousy camera. Why are these blogs so uncritical? Grow some teeth please. It's no wonder Canada suffers from lack of choice and lousy terms.
