HTC Desire HD now $0 on Telus

Seems everything is free nowadays with the carriers… on a 3 year contract of course!  Today Telus revised pricing on the HTC Desire HD down to $0 on a 3 year contract. This phone was recently released not too long ago which makes me wonder what the hold up is on this phone. It’s a very good phone except battery life among the HTC family of 4.3″ screen models is mediocre. Click the link below if you’re interested.

I had one of these with Telus three weeks ago. It is a wonderful phone with a nice huge screen. It’s as big as you can get while not getting ridiculously big. However, the horrible battery life was an issue for me. I’d unplug it at 8am, and by 11am or 12, I’d be down to 50% with minimal usage. I like bringing my phone around with me wherever I go, but I’m not a fan of bringing my charger around with me wherever I go.

Good to know, that’s too bad since I was tempted to get it too. Need to think about it.

I have the DHD. I manage to make it from 8 am to midnight on one charge. Frequent emails, a couple videos, lots of surfing, all syncs enabled, etc… The abttery is really not bad at all. I had a milestone before and the battery was horrible. This is definitely better.

It sucks that I bought it 3 weeks ago for 129!

I just got this phone 3 days ago. It’s a great user experience. Everyone is going on about the battery but it really does depend on so many factors the big ones being usage ( frequency of phone calls, text, email, surfing, auto-sync for several applications, etc ) While WhiteHotLoveTiger is experiencing poor battery life, many others including me are experiencing what I would call decent battery life. I have to charge it nightly but not through the day with minimal usage: Yesterday: some surfing for about 45 minutes, maybe 10 texts, 5 phone calls, 5 emails still had around 50%.

I’m glad that you and a couple others here are having a good experience with it. It is a really nice phone. The horrible battery life I mentioned above was with the factory settings. I set my background to plain black, turned off the vibrating every-time a key was pressed, installed an app called ‘juice defender’ and kept the screen brightness turned down. These things all helped, but in the end, it still wasn’t enough for me.

Wow, didnt realize the Desire HD was generally *that* bad… being worse than say my Milestone would be expected b/c of its massive 4.3″ screen (compared to my 3.7″), but thats just crazy!

im going to wait for the samsung galaxy s2, anyone know when its coming out?

I’m waiting for the galaxy s2 too, but I’m curious how the batterie life will be with a dual core.

Seems it will be awhile since Samsung announced an update to the Galaxy S, now S+. Just a spec bump which tells me that the S2 when it arrives will be their high end phone and perhaps supply tight. News came from Russia, so we’ll wait and see.

As soon as I saw the battery was smaller than my N1 I was out. Everything else I love about the D to the HD.

The battery is physically and (MaH) smaller yes, but shockingly its proven to me that its more reliable then I once thought. I was skeptical too once I frsit saw it too, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I have changed from an iPhone 3GS to Desire HD and I really love this phone. Great big screen, fast and love the Android OS. Battery life is pretty, good, I usually do 1.5 days on a charge, it’s the display that drains the battery the most. Battery last longer than my 1.5 year old 3GS. I just ordered an Andida battery which is 600 mah more that the original (1300 vs 1800) with the same size, time will tell if it really makes a difference.

If I would have had the time to wait, I would have gone for the galaxy s2

Good call on the larger mah sized battery… hope that does the trick.. ive often wanted to do that for my Milestone, but i dont think any larger mah ones are physically the same size (ie. they wont fit w/o a special new and bulkier battery cover)

My old old Moto Q smartphone came w a larger battery in addition to the OEM one… and had a special tiered battery cover to compensate for hte larger physical side… but it made phone bulky, kinda awkward and less attractive. I didnt end up using it in the end for these reasons. I got a decent day out of my old Q, so i just ran the stock battery.
