HTC Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD and Incredible S getting Gingerbread by Q2 2011

Android updates aren’t the most pleasant experience for users. Even the Google’s own Nexus One took a few months to finally get on the latest firmware. Custom UI skins don’t help this.

HTC seems to be on top of updates more than competing manufacturers. They’ve announced that they’re gonna get those Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates out for the original HTC Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z along with the Incredible S (which we’ve yet to see arrive to Canada) by the end of Q2 this year.

Now do remember that you won’t necessarily see your device get this update right before June ends since carriers have a role in these updates as well. Let’s hope for sooner rather than later.

I’m not holding my breath. Before I bought the Desire Z, I had a HTC Legend through Bell. The rest of the world has the Legend running on Froyo, but not Canada.
Canadian telecoms don’t support their phones very well after sales. You get what you buy and that’s about it. So while I’d love to see Gingerbread, I don’t think any of us should get our hopes up.

Sweet! i would love to get 2.3 on my new HTC desire HD. I just hope Telus doesn’t drag their feet pushing the update after HTC releases it.

CJ ur exactly right in ur comment. Canadian carriers just dont care about their customers so we r on our own. Our best solution is to bypass the carriers entirely for updates (and I also recommend buying ur phone from the manufacturers as well instead of signing contracts) and ROOT our phones and do it all ourselves.
