Google To Lift Android Device App Storage Limit

During Google’s Nexus One event held yesterday in California, Android lead Andy Rubin indicated that a future Android software update will allow developers and users to store a large number of apps on Android devices, such as seen on the iPhone.

Currently Android users and developers can only store a very small amout of apps on an Android device as apps are stored to the ROM. The future update will begin storing applications as encrypted files on the SD card.

This is great news as Android users can finally take advantage of the gigabytes of SD storage available instead of the limited megabytes that is currently being used. Now it is a matter of when the update will be released.

As one of the many Android users that are already running apps from SD, I say “It's about time it's standard”

Once you have your phone rooted it can be done. Most modified Android OS (like Cyanogen) come with App2SD (applications to SD) included in. Once you download an application it automatically goes to your SD card.

When you run apps from SD, do you notice the difference in speed/response?
