Google Releases Google Goggles For Android

Aside from the tongue twister of the new Android application, Google Goggles is a new visual search/augmented reality app.

The new app allows users to search Google in two ways:

  • Search by photo taken by the device camera
  • Search by Augmented Reality via the device camera

Google Goggles is a visual search app for Android phones. Instead of using words, take a picture of an object with your camera phone: we attempt to recognize the object, and return relevant search results. Goggles also provides information about businesses near you by displaying their names directly in the camera preview.

So that’s pretty awesome. Take a photo and Google returns the search results. Currently the app supports Android 1.6+ devices and is US-only, but we’re hoping to see some Canadian support soon.

Users can check out Goggles in the Android Marketplace.

Again 1.6 required! It doesn't matter if Googles ever makes it here if most Android users can't use it. Does the lack of updates on Rogers' part constitute breach of contract? because I'm thinking of pulling my business from Rogers over this (without having to pay the early contract cancellation fee…) Telus is getting the Moto Milestone with 2.0 on it in the spring (presumably) that would solve all my updating problems quite nicely :)

  • where's the updates

Your question seems easily answered by looking at your contract. Does it say that Rogers promises to deliver you Android updates within some specified time period?

My guess would be it doesn't.
