Google Nexus One Hands On by Engadget

by Android Fan on January 3rd, 2010

With the hoopla on the internet over Google’s Nexus One Android phone, we only saw unauthorized spy shots of the infamous Nexus One. That has all changed now that Engadget has revealed that they have received their very own Nexus One to review.

Yesterday they supplied a mini sneak peek at this interesting Google phone, which we will be sure to hear more about on January 5th, the slated date for Google’s Media Event.

Here’s is a summary of what is packed within the Nexus One:

The HTC-built and (soon to be) Google-sold device runs Android 2.1 atop a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 display, has 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, and a 4GB microSD card (expandable to 32GB). The phone is a T-Mobile device (meaning no 3G if you want to take it to AT&T), and includes the standard modern additions of a light sensor, proximity sensor, and accelerometer. The Nexus One has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and we have to say so far the pictures it snaps look pretty decent (and the camera software is much faster than the same component on the Droid). The phone is incredibly thin and sleek — a little thinner than the iPhone — but it has pretty familiar HTC-style industrial design.

The following video will show you how fast this phone really is, compared to the Droid and the iPhone 3GS. The live wallpaper feature is pretty neat and the navigation looks really nice; the fluid motion of the Android OS will definitely prove itself to be a legitimate contender to the iPhone. Check out the following video:

Now the question we all are asking is…when will the Nexus One be available in Canada? Will Canadians continue their proud tradition of waiting months to years for the latest electronics?

Well I guess that I'm just going to have to buy one direct from Google, since it's more than likely that hell will freeze over before Rogers even bothers to offer something as good as this phone.
Hopefully it'll work on the Rogers network until I can quite my contract with them and switch to Wind.....

They were saying that you can purchase it directly from google unlocked, so don't have to wait for any Canadian releases. Unless Google restricts it to only US residents, etc. (which is unlikely)

Aside from the lack of hardware keyboard this looks pretty much like the Android device I've been waiting for. Hopefully it will be available to Canada sooner rather than later.. but we've all gotten used to being patient by now I guess.. I mean when we have such competitive wireless rates and STELLAR customer service it's no big deal to wait for the latest devices right..?! </sarcasm>
