Google Buzz for Mobile Introduced for Android

Google had a major announcement today and introduced Google Buzz, a Social Networking tool to compete with twitter, Facebook, Friendfeed, etc. The highlight of Google Buzz is that it takes full advantage of your location (and Google Maps) when you send out messages (or “buzzes”?!). People can reply and you will be notified via email when that happens (sorta annoying). Just visit buzz.google.com on your Android phone to check it out!

Here’s a special note for Android users:

Update @4:40PM : For Android users, buzz.google.com and shortcuts are currently available only for phones with Android 2.0+ and we’re working to support other versions soon. Google Maps for mobile with Buzz (Maps 4.0) is available in Android Market for phones with Android 1.6+.

This is exactly the reason some of us crying foul against Rogers. Google Buzz is only available for phones sporting 1.6+. Rogers has decided to take its sweet time rolling out this upgrade and in some cases none at all.

This is the problem when software updates aren't rolled out evenly across all devices and carriers–people get left behind. Rogers and HTC really need to work on their partnership if they want to sustain a loyal Android following!
