Google Android-Powered Television Coming Soon!
Swedish company, People of Lava, will be the first company to sell an internet-connected Android-powered television set.
Reports indicate that the Android TV is set to enter beta testing this Summer 2010. At this time, only the sizes and prices are available and technical specifications are to be announced at a later date.
The Android TV comes in three flavors:
1.) 42-inch HD LED Screen; $2,000 – $2,500
2.) 47-inch HD LED Screen; Prices TBA
3.) 55-inch HD LED Screen; Prices TBA
The Android-powered television is definitely not your ordinary HDTV. Some of the unique features include a dashboard view, which is a view that features icons that are essentially applications, YouTube support, Google Maps, a full web browser, and an Application Market where users can download additional applications.
Nothing has been reported on what kind of applications can be download except that Twitter and Email support will be available.
I’m wondering how useful this will really be compared to a laptop when you factor in the fact of a needing a keyboard. In any case, global sales of the new TV are set to begin in September 2010.
