Google & Adobe To Push Flash In Android 2.2 Update

The Android side of the Google I/O event begins today and Android fans are highly anticipating two things; the release of Android 2.2 (AKA: Froyo) and the release of Flash 10.1 for Android.

Android 2.2 is expected to deliver performance improvements for compatible devices, device tethering, and other enhancements and new features. The new update is also expected to have Flash 10.1 integrated with the OS.

And speaking of Flash, according to reports, Google and Adobe will be making the Flash 10.1 feature very prominent as soon as you update to 2.2.

After updating to Android 2.2, compatible devices running the new OS are welcomed with a link to an Adobe web page. The web page gives users the option to “View Flash enabled websites” or “Get Adobe products”.

Clicking on the first link brings users to a list of websites that Adobe is featuring as being fully Flash compatible. Such websites include Sony Pictures, BBC, Google Finance, and more.

While we can only speculate, the Adobe Flash list seems to be a jab at Apple’s recently published list of websites that make full use of HTML5, the current alternative to Flash on the web. With Apple cutting out Flash from its platform, Adobe and Google seem to be ready to do amazing things with Android.
