Galaxy S II Coming to Canada

Samsung’s Canadian website is advertising the new Galaxy S II. What is not told about this is which carrier will be picking it up.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is going to be a phone thats going to shine over others for sure. Some of the key features that stood out for me was the processor; Dual-core XMM6260, 1200 MHz, and 1GB of ram. On a bad note this only supports MPEG4, H.263, H.264, DivX for video files, so more common videos files such as AVIs will still need to be converted or using a 3rd party video player. Good news is that it will come standard with 32Gb of built in storage, a step up from its previous 16Gb. Today’s time every great phone has to have video calling, and Galaxy S II comes with a 2MP Camera to fit that need. Coming preloaded with GingerBread 2.3, this phone is going to be a door buster. If I had to guess which carrier is going to snatch this bad boy up, it would Telus.

Scheduled to be released late summer, early fall.

It’s either this or the HTC Sensation.  Both look awesome.  But I disagree re: the carrier.  I have a feeling it will be Rogers.  The high end HTC phones seem to be going to Telus and Bell, while Rogers already has the Galaxy S and Tablet..

I see your point. The reason my guess was Telus is because they have the Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+ and 4G model, adding Galaxy S II would fit nicely in to the existing family.

I perfer Rogers as my primary carrier, as I use both Rogers and Telus. If Rogers does end up getting it instead of Telus, it would really make me a bit more happier :P

I wish so much you’re right and that Rogers gonna get it, but since they already have the LG Optimus Pad and they announce they will carry the LG Optimus 3D, and as Telus just launch the LG Optimus Black I think  unfortunatly it’s gonna end up at Bell ( ?%&*%??) since they had the only almost original Galaxy S long before Rogers and Telus had there version.

BUT I so much hope I’ll be wrong.

I’d say Bell, as they had the original galaxy s first.

Most AVIs you find on the web are usually DivX or XVid, which hopefully should be supported.  Please note that AVI is the container, not the encoding format.  On the other hand, DivX and H.264 are encoding formats.

I doubt the phone will lack AVI support.  They probably didn’t mention AVI for some reason.  My UK version Galaxy S 2 plays MKVs, AVIs, everyting I throw at it just the same as my captivate did.   I hope this model is the same as the UK version to encourage more unified ROM development.  I hate when they create different variants (ie. Captivate, Fascinate) off of the international i9000 version which is why I got the i9100

I agree 100%. I think things would go much smoother if companies stuck to a single model like Nexus S without all the side models and minor frame change and such, we would also see more accessories.
Right now its hard to find accessories, because every Android has its own shape and size.

Samsung hasn’t allowed their android smartphones to be locked down to one carrier in the past and I think it’s foolish to think that they will start now.  With the most hyped android smartphone of 2011 no-less…
