First Fido Android Phone Now Available, The Acer Liquid E

Yet another Canadian carrier has officially joined the Android game. The Acer Liquid E is the first Android phone for Fido and this is very exciting news. While not a total surprise, but that’s the downside of following these handsets so closely I suppose.

It’s gonna cost you $30 on a 3-year term, pretty good deal if you ask me. That gets you a 3.5-inch display, Android 2.1, 5MP camera and standard Wifi, GPS, 3G and Bluetooth. That makes it one of Fido’s top smartphones and certainly a high-end Android phone on any carrier.

So no more complaining that your carrier doesn’t carry an Android phone! Go out and get one right now. And please, do let us know what you think of it.

Any information on an update to Froyo? I read that the Liquid E would get it in October, but if Fido manages theses updates the same way Rogers does, I would prefer to wait for the update to be published instead of just announced… Me, Rogers, you know… :-P

This is not “yet another Canadian carrier”. Fido is the cheap brand for Rogers.

So PL, you’re pretty much guaranteed you’ll get the same spin-treatment as Rogers with this one. 3 years commitment ? Wow, great deal.

youre wrong, nothing cheap about fido, it’s called an illusion of choice.

I tried the phone for a while, I switch away from my nexus one just to see if there is a phone that I will like better. I didn’t like the phone to be honest and ended up getting back to my N1. why? here are my fast opinion.
    1) Good part: the phone is fast, very responsive. it doesn’t have 1 Ghz processor but you won’t feel such a great difference. The camera is good in day light but no flash means crappy pictures at night.
    2) Bad part: the phone proximity sensor is retarded. The proximity sensor doesn’t response all the time, and it is slow to blacken out the screen. that was the main reason I hated the phone. I was putting ppl on hold accidentally with my ear lobe. I noticed my N1 proximity sensor is way better, faster and more sensitive.
    3) bad part: I don’t think this phone would last 3 years. Honestly, when you hold it and squeeze it you can hear squeaking sounds. when I used to push the upper and lower panel (the one where the charging port is, and where the LED lights are located) they actually bend. yes, you can see the plastic bending. The phone is made of cheap plastic and I don’t think such a phone will last for 3 years. so make sure you sell it by the time the 1 year warranty ends.
some reviews mentioned that the phone overheats. I didn’t witness that. my nexus one, when I tether, and charge it at the same time, heats up more.

I used the phone for a week and this is fast review of it that I hope will help you if you are considering this phone.

I’m currently using the liquid e..I find it will heat up (at the bottom where the usb port is) during charging and prolong use.

    Also, should taskillers be used?
Will the 2.2 update be avilable for the liquid and what will it include?

I spent quite a bit on the Liquid E withought a plan. Now the charging port is not working and I dont have a warranty. Dissapointed as this was the only non-ipod smartphone that would go with the fido carrier. I didnt think it would break like this within a month.

The worst phone ever. The liquid panel cracks after one and a half month of use. The phone just start to vibrate and cracked from inside. The panel damages are not covered by warranty, guess way, they know their product. Three year of contract was a big mistake. I want recommend that phone to anyone.
