Captivate Pre-Order Date Pushed To October 24 On Rogers

Rogers was supposed to cut off pre-orders on October 20th (today). Now this date has been pushed back four days for those who missed their chance. I would presume you readers are well ahead of this and got your pre-order in a while ago but we can all be forgetful sometimes.

I’m assuming this means they have enough stock to go around which is good and bad. Good because everyone can get their phone, just imagine if you had to go through the iPhone 4 nonsense. It worries me because it could indicate the phone isn’t off to a booming start in terms of sales.

Either way, pure speculation on my part. The phone will be available next week for those who would rather wait (and risk not getting a FREE Bluetooth headset? madness!)

I think Samsung/Rogers dropped the ball here by releasing this phone so late after the Iphone 4. They lost alot of customers to Apple beacause no one wanted to wait. I was really looking forward to this phone, but couldn’t wait any longer. I know Bell had a deal to be the exclusive Galaxy retailer for a short period of time, but Samsung would have been better off selling the phone through 2 carriers instead of 1. I think this will be reflected in how many preorders recieved for the Captivate. It’s too bad cause I would rather support Android than Mr. Jobs.

i’m fed up of these delays. Been waiting patiently for a long time now. And Rogers is even showing 2 different prices with a HUGE gap. $150 on the main Captivate page, but $399 if you browse the mobile phones for the same 3 year contract.

They definitely dropped the ball. The only reason why they would increase the time interval for allowing preorders is exactly like the post said. There’s obviously enough stock and not enough demand.

Honestly, the HTC Desire Z is coming out in a couple weeks, and a few other android phones will be releasing as well. And in the Smartphone world, there is the release of the WIN7 phones which may deviate some attention away from the Captivate.

If Robbers/Samsung had released this closer to when Telus released the Desire, they would be fine and it would have sold “like hotcakes”.

Now that the population in Canada has heard of the HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire Z, Motorola Droid 2 – World Edition, and now rival devices from Windows in the form of WIN7 Phones the people have more CHOICE.

This CHOICE means that they’re going to have a more difficult time choosing between a Samsung Android phone, though powerful has a few drawbacks ie: no flash? (don’t remember) and it’s locked with bing search (or something) i forgot some of the drawbacks.

Anyways, if Robbers customers had to wait an extra 2 months for the damn flagship android phone to be released, I don’t think they’d mine waiting another 2 – 3 weeks for other phones with the potential to offer better functionality for the users.

In short, Robbers / Samsung F-ed up BIG time.

“no flash? (don’t remember) and it’s locked with bing search (or something) i forgot some of the drawbacks. ”
Why not take 30 seconds each to check these? No flash is true but that’s because it’s on 2.1 currently. It’s not as though Samsung is blocking flash. And locked with bing search?! I think you’re thinking of the Verizon deal in the states that has all their phones using bing. It has nothing to do with Rogers or Samsung.
C’mon man. The galaxy S phones are having some issues but you got them all wrong.

I think he was actually referring to the lack of a hardware flash for the camera on the Captivate.. which is true of both the Vibrant and Captivate. The Captivate is also lacking the front facing camera which the Vibrant has, as well as the FM radio. Both of which are pretty negligible features for most people I imagine… If I was stuck with Rogers I’d definitely consider the Captivate still, as it reportedly has better build quality than the Vibrant, doesn’t look and feel like a cheap iPhone 3 knock-off, and it does still have the best performance of any Android device in Canada at the moment, at least on paper. The Desire Z with it’s 2nd gen snapdragon is very close in performance but still slightly behind the Galaxy S in the only benchmark I’ve seen between them… but more importantly (for me anyway) the Desire Z has HTC’s excellent design and build quality in a full aluminum body, and a hardware QWERTY. The new SenseUI features are looking quite nice as well, whereas Samsung’s build quality is only passable and their software quality varies from bad to insufferably bad.
