Bell To Launch Motorola DEXT At $79.95

Yesterday Telus officially launched the Motorola BACKFLIP. As noted yesterday, the BACKFLIP is one of three new social media Android devices coming from Motorola, along with the DEXT and Quench from Bell and Rogers, respectively.

Back in March, Bell confirmed plans to carry the Motorola DEXT but at the time revealed no pricing or release date. Now reports have come in that indicate that Bell will launch the DEXT at $79.95 on a 3-year agreement. By comparison, Telus launched the BACKFLIP at $99.99 with a 3-year agreement.

The Motorola DEXT from Bell is also available at a no contract price for $399.95.

Some of the Motorola DEXT tech specs include:

  • Android OS 1.5 with MOTOBLUR
  • 3.1-inch display (resolution of 320 x 480)
  • Full Qwerty keyboard
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and video
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • WiFi
  • 32GB storage with MicroSD card
  • aGPS with Google Maps

“Bell launches obsolete Motorola piece of shit Android device for hundreds of dollars.”

lmao.. couldn't have said it better myself. I guess kids who want a cheap(ish) smartphone that isn't too big, with wifi and a full qwerty might like this though. Launching a device with Android 1.5 in Q2 2010 just seems ridiculous though. These companies that insist on shipping with their own customized Android better get with the program and upgrade it to the latest build or they're going to get left in the dust. Their customized builds are mostly nothing more than a glorified social networking RSS feed widget and a new skin anyway. Is it really that hard to port it to the latest build?

How true, LOL. I'm waiting for Bell to offer a good Android phone, but boy it's taking a while. I'd pick up a Milestone or Nexus One off contract, but I don't get a break on the monthly plan so why waste money? I'd literally run to the Bell store if they had an HTC Incredible equivalent.
