Bell May Drop System Access Fee On November 20

If an internal Bell document is to be believed, Bell Canada may be dropping their system access fee effective November 20, 2009. This puts Bell in line with Telus, who just recently dropped their SAF and 911 fee but did increase price plans by $5.00.

See the Bell comment below:

Effective November 20th, 2009 Bell Mobility will be launching new pricing for all existing postpaid plans & will no longer be charging the $6.95 system access fee.

At this time, the Bell posting does not make any reference to the Bell 911 fee.

This may be good news for new Bell customers who will now have a slightly lower monthly fee. Existing Bell customers will likely have to change plans to take advantage of the non-SAF option and it is unknown as this time what will happen with existing business/corporate plan customers.

Rogers is now the last carrier who is still charging some kind of non-price plan fee with their GRRF.

Dropping a fee while raising your prices by basically an equal amount MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I don't care if there is a line item on my bill for “building homes for wayward aliens”, all I care about is the total price for the features I get.

This current round is utterly smoke and mirrors. Rogers was even more deceptive with just renaming their fee, but dropping the fee and raising your prices is bullshit.
