Seems like Pocket-lint has it on good authority that Android 2.4 will be arriving as early as this coming April. This is according to their source at Viewsonic who claims that their upcoming ViewPad 4 smartphone in April will be one of the first to ship with the new operating system.
It seems like the only change from the current Android 2.3 build is compatibility for dual-core apps on single-core smartphones. This would allow applications designed for Android 3.0 Honeycomb to be compatible with handsets running the new 2.4 operating system.
We’re also told that the dessert name will stay Gingerbread for this update and this is not the Ice Cream release. Viewsonic believes that the Ice Cream name will be saved for Android 3.1 sometime in the future.
