Here is some good news for Rogers HTC Magic owners.
This week, the Rogers Social Media team sent out a series of tweets indicating that the Android OS 2.1 update is coming for the HTC Magic.
As many remember, the HTC Magic was one of the first Android-powered devices to hit Canada, along with the HTC Dream. Both devices, especially the Magic, has had their share of problems such as the urgent 911 fix and then the recent re-branding to “Magic+”.
The first tweet sent out indicated that Rogers has received a draft of OS 2.1:
“Okay Magic fans, I have an update for you! Rogers has received a draft OS 2.1 Magic upgrade from HTC”.
The tweet immediately following hinted at an upcoming release date for the OS 2.1 update:
“We’re in process of testing. No solid release date as that depends on Google’s approval as well. We anticipate end of Aug but plz stay tuned”
So it seems like Rogers HTC Magic owners may be receiving the Android 2.1 OS update this August 2010. The only unfortunate aspect is that the Android 2.2 update is already coming up, but at least the Magic will be somewhat almost up to date.

They promised us the 2.1 update by June 2010 before, so I'll believe it when I see it.
Sorry, but this isn't good news. Like what was mentioned, it was supposed to come out at the end of June. Now it's not coming out until the end of August… that's an extra two months; which in the tech sector is a very long time.
Other carriers that have this phone in the US and France will be getting 2.2, the latter getting it THIS summer. Possibly even before we get 2.1 while we'll still be stuck on 1.5.
With everything that has been going on with this phone, I have to question Rogers commitment to Android and it's customers.
I don't get why they are so slow… They just have to add Rogers apps in the ROM. They talk like they 100% make it.

WTF!? How is this good new? please explain? They originally promised end of June, and now its pushed back 2 months. When August comes around they will probably push it back to Nov.
It's a good news because we will have Eclair.
Ok, they are really slow and didn't give a s***t about us, the customers, and our need of updated OS. But we will have it. This is a good news.
I will believe it when I see it too, but since rogers have the OS in hand “for testing”, we are closer by a little step…
Ok roger's yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! How about impressing your customers with a decent phone like the “desire or evo” . Get real, Get with it, or you will lose loyal customers.
I think I am going to stick with Rogers tell they give me my 2.1 see if I like it. If I do not like it, I may just root & CryoGen Mod 6 (2.2) then switch to WIND and get one of t-Mobles new Android phones.
Note: after switching to WIND i will be getting a new phone, and using my Magic as a backup/wifi style mini-tablet. I will not attempt to use my Magic on WIND due to the AWS and Rogers with incompatible G3 Bands…
Ok, seriously if people are going to post, then atleast read other articles about this topic. or check out other android forums, websites on the given topic. or heck call rogers before posting. They never promised the os by the end of june. HTC promised that by the end of the june they would send it out to rogers for TESTING. after that rogers will test 2.1 on the magic. and then they will proceed by sending it to us the customers. which is why it's probably being sent by august maybe even september. learn to read people before you post… btw no one cares that you rooted your phone to this 2.1 or 2.2… you're cool only to yourself….
they should just forget 2.1 and bring us 2.2!

What is Google approving? 2.1 has been available since January of this year and Google is already on to 2.2
Is Rogers/HTC mucking about with their customizations (i.e. pointless branding / apps that just link to sites) so much that Google needs to review them? If so, ditch the pointless customizations or at least give customers the options to get a non-Rogers-customized version.
There are so many apps now that won't work on 1.5. Rogers doesn't seem to understand that these are not “cell phones” — they're mobile computing devices and being stuck on an OS that's now four major versions old is an absolute joke…
They have 12 days. If they push it back again i'm going to start looking for a better carrier
