In a new video this week, Adobe has showcased both Flash 10.1 running on Android but running on Android 2.2. In the video, Flash is seen running relatively smooth as compared to previous demos where videos or web browsing were slow or crashed. Flash on Android now seems to run 3G, gaming, video and web content with ease.
Adobe’s Ryan Stewart also detailed how certain elements work in Flash such as users tap and hold on an interactive Flash component to switch away from manipulating the browser.
While the vast majority of tasks seem to run smoothly, it is not completely perfect. For example, in the video demo, Flash seems to have some issues playing large video files with some web sites giving a warning to users that their videos are “not optimized for mobile”.
The other issue is battery life. It is obvious that running Flash on any mobile will drain a battery quickly, but Adobe has claimed otherwise. In the video demo however, the Nexus One was plugged into a power source and covered any traces of reduced battery life.
Near the end of the video demo, Android 2.2 (AKA: Froyo), gets some face time and briefly reveals a possible redesigned home screen. In the clip, the dialer and web browser have been placed near the app launcher, but whether this is permanent or not is yet to be seen.
Rumors have pointed to Google revealing Android OS 2.2 at the Google I/O conference on May 19, which may also be the day that delivers more detailed information regarding Flash 10.1.
