Acer Liquid E Gets Android 2.2 Froyo

Another phone crosses the line! The Acer Liquid E on Rogers and Fido is now receiving the Android 2.2 update. What does this get you?

- Support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1
- Performance of the browser has been enhanced using the V8 engine, which enables faster loading of JavaScript-heavy pages
- Dalvik Performance Boost: 2x-5x performance speedup for CPU-heavy code over Android 2.1 with Dalvik JIT
- Voice dialing over Bluetooth
- Mobile hotspot capabilities to specific devices
- Exchange Calendars are now supported in the Calendar application
- Gallery allows you to peek into picture stacks using a zoom gesture
- Videos can be shot at night or in low light settings
- Improved security with the addition of numeric pin or alpha-numeric password options to unlock device

Sounds pretty good to me. Appears this is not an over-the-air update so head on down to Acer’s website that we’ve linked to below and Select Smart Handheld ->Liquid E & follow instructions. Got it? Let us know how it went!

I have had some trouble getting the update installed. The phone will boot into froyo, but the menu button, and power button do not work. Once the screen times out there is no way to wake the phone. Tried to do the update a second time but run into an error.

      ouch….. that sucks

I wonder if they fixed the phone’s typing dictionary with the 2.2. when I used it, it was terrible. Some commonly used word were automatically corrected when typing (or given different suggestions to what I wanna type). First couple of days I was saving every single word the phone doesn’t recognize. I was surprised coz that wasn’t the case in any other android device I tried.

I updated my two liquid e,s yesterday, the update experience was easy I updated using my home computer. You download the files then copy them to the root directory of your phone with connected usb cable. Then reboot your phone and it installs automatically. I don’t know what I am going to do with the extra horsepower and features as my data plan is blown for this month (500) gb I don’t know why the phone uses so much data. I have everything turned off now just trying to minimize my overage so my bill stays under $200 This is rediculous

Update is done, no problems to report. Feels like it took about 20 minutes for the phone to reboot, though. Wifi hotspot is excellent, performance boost is nice.

@George Labine Perhaps Google Listen, Maps, things like that?

@Mo You can always turn off the autocorrect. I had that problem initially too, and I seem to remember something about turning off the contacts in autocorrect.

Have you been able to use your Bluetooth? I upgraded my Liquid E yesterday to 2.2 on Rogers and now I cannot turn the Bluetooth on.
