$50 HTC Dream/Magic Credit From Rogers!

A few days ago I posted about the Rogers price reduction for both the HTC Dream and HTC Magic from $149 to $99 on a 3 year voice and data plan. This change was made effective July 1, 2009.

Well, I have some great news!

If you bought your HTC Dream or HTC Magic officially through Rogers on a 3 year voice and data plan contract and paid $149 for either device, you can call Rogers and claim a $50 credit! This will be a $50 credit put on to your wireless bill at the end of your billing cycle for the current month. (Remember, you are going to want to play the concerned consumer that feels ripped off by $50 because  Rogers dropped the price so suddenly!)

However, the only way that you can claim the $50 is if you did buy the HTC device from Rogers and you signed up on a Rogers 3 year voice and data plan contract to receive, at the time, promotional pricing of $149 for either of the two HTC Devices. If you bought your device through another retailer, like Future Shop for example, as long as you have a Rogers 3 year voice and data plan contract, you should still call Rogers and attempt to receive the $50 credit.

To claim your $50 credit, give Rogers a call at 1-888-ROGERS1 (1-888-764-3771).

Please note that this is not a guaranteed $50 credit, as some users have received it while others have not.  Many users have said you have to be within 15 days of the original purchase, but others have received the credit even after being 30 days or more since the purchase.

So try anyway and report back your experience!

*Thanks to AndroidInCanada commenter Samuel M. for the heads-up!

I bought mine 3 weeks ago from futureshop, does that means I’m screwed?

    • Billy

That I am not entirely sure of. But your service is still with Rogers. So as long as you are on a 3 year voice/data plan, I would try it anyway

I’ve already been able to get it at the price of new customer, even thought i still had 1 years and a half left on my 3 year contract, by saying i would rather disconnect and pay the penalty fee if i would not be able to get it at that price…

Asking 50$ more might be pushing my luck….

I just called it to Rogers Customer Support

The Rep said the offer is only entitled to those who ordered after the 15th of June

I ordered on the 3rd of June but thanks to their slow service in shipping, I received the phone on the 15th heh

    I got the credit HA!

    Call in! It works

I purchased my phone on the 3nd of June and was credited $50 as a “Manufacturer’s rebate”. Check your phone bills ;)

    • Billy

That rebate is usually given as a part of the upgrade program. You can still get an additional $50

yeah i called in, i bought my phone day 1, on june 2.

guy says there is a 15 day period for price changes.

i have to call back and talk to a manager because he wouldn’t do it. Here is my logic on why anyone who bought a dream or magic before june 15 should get it.

for me, I have been with rogers for fricken ever, so i’m going to use my loyalty as a bargaining chip.

next, anyone who bought within the first 2 weeks, especially the first day… should definitely get it.

It’s no secret that the google phone launch wasn’t very successful, around here, stores had tons of phones in stock for 2 weeks. so, us early adopters are going out and supporting rogers basically, when all we needed to do was wait 15 days and we could have saved $50. This is stupid on rogers part, because what is my incentive on picking up a new launch product on day 1 after this? nothing, because I’ll just get f’d, when i can just and see how many they sell and get a price drop 2 weeks later. yes, i realize the drop happened a month later, but since june 15 is the supposed cut-off for getting the credit, it’s 2 weeks in my eyes.

anyways.. going to phone back tonight and talk to a manager, no reason they shouldn’t credit back all dream/magic owners for not waiting two weeks in a move that supported rogers in the end.

rogers is so shady, but unfortunately they are the lesser of the evils where I live.

ok so here’s what happened… got a good rep I guess and he was able to figure it out. I paid $175 for my dream -$50 rebate making it $125. He said since the phone is now 99.99 he can credit 25 to bring my price to the 99.99 level, which is totally fair.

glad to have gotten this resolved, a positive rogers story lol

That’s awesome news! A $25 credit is better than no credit at all.

got mine, took a few tries to get the “right” CSR but after he went to 2 different managers he finally got it approved for me:D

I bought the phone June 2nd, on a NEW 3 year contract and called today, over a month after I got the phone.

at first they didn’t want to give it to me because of that 15 day period BS, but being polite, friendly and stern will get you a long way. remember most people that call customer service, yell and are upset, i know it’s hard to hold it back but take it from me (spent 3 years working in a call center) being nice WILL make a huge difference.

thanks for the tip Billy and Samuel M., $50 is a lot for a student :D

Got mine June 2nd, just called, was firm but polite, got nothing but the 15 day stuff, and had no luck getting the $50 rebate. Boo-urns.

I would try again, and keep trying till you get it.
