Earlier this week, Telus held an event for the HTC Desire where the company officially announced that the device was “coming soon”. Telus did not supply any official dates or pricing but we do know that the Desire will ship with Android OS 2.1.

We also know that in July 2010, an HTC representative reported that the upcoming HTC Desire would receive the Android 2.2. update. The device will ship with Android 2.1, but it will be upgradable.

The time line for the Android 2.2 update for the HTC Desire was estimated at around Summer/Fall 2010.

Now, early reports of pricing have started to come in. Initial pricing rumors peg the HTC Desire at $79.99 with a 3-year voice and data plan agreement. The outright price is rumored at $449.99.

The HTC Desire will ship with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.7-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera with flash , and WiFi. The device can further hold up to 16GBof storage with a microSD card.

This week, new estimates put the Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero being available sometime in the first half of August. Reports indicate that Telus is still testing the OS upgrade.

At this time, the reason is unknown to why the Android 2.1 update has been delayed for so long, but back in April, Telus indicated that the reason for the delay at the time was due to a lack of effort. The reason is both vague and cryptic and Telus has been silent since.

Hopefully this August 2010 report comes true and HTC Hero owners can finally officially update to Android 2.1.

Over the last few months, Telus, Rogers, and Bell each launched one of Motorola’s new Android-powered devices. Telus launched the Backflip, Rogers launched the Quench, and Bell launched the Dext.

Aside from having MOTOBLUR in common, each device also had Android 1.5. As many know, Android 1.5 severely limits a device’s potential and is already an obsolete operating system. Well, there is some good news from Motorola on the OS front.

Motorola has constructed an update schedule for Android 2.1 and the Dext, Quench, and Backflip are all on the list as devices “under evaluation” to receive the Android OS 2.1 update.

We know you value having the latest and greatest technology on your devices. In a bit of confusion, it seems that the HTC Triumph coming from Telus may actually be called the HTC Desire. A screenshot of a Telus inventory screen indicates the Desire device name. The HTC Desire was the official name for this device and was renamed to launch on Telus.

At this time, there are no price points available but considering previous Android-based device price points by Telus, the Triumph/Desire will likely be priced under $200, somewhere around the $99 or $149 area. Of course the price will be promotional pricing requiring a 3-year agreement with Telus.

The latest Telus Android device is available for $99.99 on a 3-year agreement and is available at both Telus and Best Buy locations. Promotional pricing does require a minimum conbined $45 voice and data plan.

We’ve seen Best Buy drop the price of their Samsung Galaxy Spica (Rogers) Android device to a whopping $0.01 and also seen Bell drop their Samsung Galaxy to $0.00! Now Future Shop has the Motorola Milestone (Telus) on sale for $149.99.

The Future Shop sale price is a $50 price drop and will require a 3-year agreement. However, Future Shop is also including a free $50 Future Shop gift card which is perfect for an accessory to go along with the Milestone. The Milestone was also recently updated to Android OS 2.1.

New activations with Telus also receive the six months unlimited local calling and 6PM early evenings which are expiring on May 3, 2010. The Motorola Milestone sale ends on April 29, 2010.
