How did you get here? [reader poll]

We really love writing for the blog. For Tom and I it’s a hobby/passion thing, and it’s really nice to share our opinions of the things we like with you, our reader.

And we really do try our best to write for you. We want to make this blog one of your favourites! Obviously it’s hard to compete against some of the biggies out there, but we’re trying; and we want to do better.

So, I’m making up a poll.

I want to know from you, how did you get here? What did you like? How do you stay up to date with us? …and finally, of course, what can we do better?

I really want to interact with you as best as possible to ensure that you keep coming back, and that you recommend us. I want this blog to be collaborative between Tom and I with you. We try to respond to each and every comment on the blog and on Google+ and Facebook (trying to get a handle on the Twitter account).

Top Apps Used (poll results) – according to you, the readers

So last week I had asked you all to provide me insight into your phone usage. This came about due to a report that Nielsen had released saying Facebook was the top app (aside from Market).

Let’s see what you answered with.

As for the ‘other’ apps listed, here’s the breakdown

Thanks for all your input, it looks like our results fall in line with the Nielsen report, with Facebook almost being the top (tho’ Maps, beat it out), I almost don’t want to count Gmail … that’s a given pretty much. Google+ still limping in there, tie-ing with Talk, but under “Search”.

Galaxy Nexus, Hit or Miss [Results] + Apps

Just before the weekend, I through a poll out into the wild to see what the general person thought about the Galaxy Nexus. Not surprising it got pretty high praise.

I have to admit, I was skeptical at first. I got mine a couple weeks before it was launched in Canada and there were a couple bugs that were haunting me. Shortly after the official release in Canada, Google was quick to patch these up and make this phone much more enjoyable. With the help of a couple apps from the market, my overall view of this phone has greatly increased.

Reading around the XDA forums, an app by the name of ‘Volume+’ is a life saver for Galaxy Nexus owners. This app boosts the sound of that weak speaker and has been getting a lot of attention recently. Another app I have fell in love with is ‘Light Glow’. An app that allows you to completely control your Galaxy Nexus’ LED, better yet it also has Google+ support which Google+ dosen’t natively support.

For the most part, this phone is hitting a high point for many people. I feel sorry for that single person who got cancer from this phone lol.

Galaxy Nexus, Hit or Miss? [POLL]

Over the past month or so, I have written two reviews on the Galaxy Nexus. My first initial thoughts, as well as my updated review when all the bugs had either been worked around or fixed.

I was fortunate enough to be able to get my hands on the Galaxy Nexus weeks before it even launched in Canada. I ended up voicing some concerns within my reviews that others didn’t think was all that big of an issue. Now the Galaxy Nexus has officially launched in Canada, we start to see more reviews popping up all over. Reading through, I notice quite a few of these review I find, people are actually pointing at some of the main issues I did as well.

It’s no doubt the Galaxy Nexus is an amazing phone. Every couple of days I’m constantly switching my SIM card from my Galaxy S II LTE to my Galaxy Nexus and back again. Though I claim the Galaxy S II LTE suits me better, something about the Galaxy Nexus keeps begging me to give it another try.

By this time, lots of people have either got their own Galaxy Nexus, used a demo model, or even played with a friends. I want to know what the general public thinks about this phone, for that reason I have created a poll to get a better understanding what people think.

Facebook top ‘liked’ app… what’s yours? [poll]

So, recently, Neilsen released a survey that showed that Facebook was the top used app on Android, across all 3 age demographics:

So interesting, especially as on the same day Gizmodo published an article about how everybody hates Facebook.

Holiday Android Poll Results

So last week I asked you what it is that you do to your phone. The great thing about having an open source platform (welcome to the family webOS) is that it’s meant to be altered and customized, and I wanted to see how you ‘holiady’d up your phone.

Here’s what you posted:

Up until yesterday I was going to call the lot of you a bunch of Grinches as it was the “winning” answer. But it looks like in the end the wallpaper changers took the lead.

The ‘other’ response was someone who wrote “I CHANGE EVERYTHING”.

Some of your suggested changes came from (note, I’m just using the first link I find in the market, as there’s several of the same name):

Someone wrote “Google Reader”, but it was for a bah-humbug response, so I’m not sure how that fit in.

Anyways, just wanted to say thanks to the readers who replied – we here at Android In Canada really do appreciate your input (validates what we do) and we always look forward to what you have to say.

Do you ‘decorate’ your phone for the holidays? [POLL]

My wife really likes the Christmas season. She loves to decorate the house … we’ve got several boxes; and this year we’ve added more.

Which makes me wonder… as much as we love changing and customizing our phones (ah the blessing of an Android phone), how much do you do it ‘seasonally’ to reflect the current season? I’ve seen a ton of articles in the other blogs about recently updated ‘holiday versions’ of their apps [pops, Angry Birds, etc..]

Do you change the ring tone? How about the wallpaper? Fill out our survey with what you do to your phone over the holidays, and let us know what programs you use.

[POLL] What are you looking forward to in ICS

So, I know this probably went out about a month ago on other blogs etc…, once Google released the Galaxy Nexus people talked all about the features.

But with the recent announcements about the nexus’ impending release into the great white North I figured it got us all thinking about what ICS will bring us as we’re probably debating what we’ll do with the release. Do we get the new phone, or wait for an update on one we already have?

So that’s why I wanted to see what you, our readers think. [Because we really do care about what you think - it helps us frame what we write] Plus it’s a way for me to test this new power I may (or may not have) with the blog to put polls, and use my favourite webapp — Google Docs.

Hardware aside, what are the features of ICS that you look forward to having on your phone?

Android Data & Pricing, How Much Do You Really Need? (Poll)

A conversation I had with a bunch of friends and followers on Google+ sparked me to write this today. It appears many people have different views on how much you should spend on data, and how much you really need for the average user.

A large number of users seem to favour the cost affective 500Mb to 1Gb data plans that are bundled within other voice features to save money, where others are paying an additional $30 and up for an even greater amount of data, and sometimes still not enough to fill their needs.

Rogers and Bell, and surely more to follow are offering their new LTE network and their LTE data price guides. In Rogers price guide, the cheapest LTE data add-on is $35 for 2GB (non-shareable). Bundled voice services + LTE data are also $5-$15+ higher than normal bundles with data. This is going to force people to pay more in the later days, as I believe the 3G/HSPA network will be slowly phased out like the CDMA network was in a couple years.

I would like to get a better understand where the majority of people stand in terms of data by providing this poll.

Which also brings me to a couple questions I wish to ask my readers.

1. Do you think the 3G network will be phased out, if so how long will it take?
What’s your phone bill, and what services do you currently have?

I’m curious, and I’m sure others are too and waiting to compare their plans as well.
