When Will the HTC Evo 4G Android Phone Come to Canada?

Sprint showed off the HTC Evo 4G handset recently, the first 4G Android handset to hit the USA. This phone has a massive 4.3″ touchscreen that will put it in direct competition with the Google Nexus One, DROID, and iPhone. The team at Electronista recently go to test the Evo 4G in person.

Here are some of their thoughts:

Despite the large display, the Evo still feels much lighter than Motorola’s Droid and only slightly heavier than the iPhone and Nexus One. Users who find the Droid too bulky might be turned off by the large housing, necessitated by the 4.3-inch screen, although the back side offers a pocket-friendly contour very similar to the iPhone.

Overall construction appears to be top-notch, on-par with the HTC-built Nexus One and HD2. The Evo utilizes the same 1GHz Snapdragon CPU as the N1, while integrating a kickstand similar to the HD2′s Extended Battery add-on.

The 800×480 display was very impressive while watching movies and playing games. Like the Galaxy S, the Evo can play 720p content scaled down to fit the non-HD display resolution. The panel appeared to be brighter than the Galaxy S and Nexus One AMOLEDs, providing similar illumination to the Droid and iPhone. Users can also play content through a TV via HDMI.

These HTC Android phones have beautiful high resolution screens. The Evo 4G’s kickstand seems worthy, but I can see this breaking off if people aren’t careful.

When Will the HTC Evo 4G Come to Canada?

Either way, there is no word on when Canada will get the Evo 4G. Since this version is CDMA only, Telus and Bell would be the only available options to use this in Canada. Then again, waiting will result in the GSM version of this phone to be released. It’s only a matter of time. What do you think of this latest Android device?

Uhm… did you notice the Droid has a keyboard? No soft kb is as good as a real one if you need to use proper sentences with a diverse vocabulary, names and symbols. If the Droid had a decent camera I'd be all over it as a good computing/memory companion.

I ordered my nexus one. This phone is wicked. Will get if ever availible for us here in Canada.

  • thesniperz

this would be the phone i would instantly get to replace my magic once it comes out here.. unless there's something new comes out. :D

  • dw4lsh

Damn it, the iPhone will never get proper competition in Canada…

  • C_deviant

    Android sucks!

  • Fraidoonkhuram

Does anyone know how to get EVO 4g working with bell or TELUS? I heard ppl talking about flashing the phone or mei swap but can someone lead me to the right path?

Haha.. Its called swype and it will make you look silly. Lol good computing and memory companion? Its a robot not a companion. Don't put something down if you don't know what it is capable of.

Sent on my n1 via swype.

  • nostriluu

Soft keyboards depend too much on predictive text, with a diverse vocab they
are often more annoying than useful. Happy to be proven wrong.

  • ChongoDroid

Swype is choppy for a day and after it learns how you swype its blazingly fast. Now that I think about it I only used my droid keyboard for snesoid haha

  • nostriluu

That's nice, but for apps like the ssh terminal a hard keyboard is
    essential.

    • Alex

This is very true. Does the Captivate support Bluetooth keyboards?

    • Anonymous

There are few things more awkward than carrying around and using a Bluetooth keyboard with a handset. And I say this from experience. There are plenty of good ‘slider’ handsets with keyboards – Samsung Galaxy Pro, Motorola Milestone 2, Motorola Droid Pro, HTC G2.

  • Jay

I want this phone so bad… sucks that it is CDMA though because I hate Telus and Bell… I only use Rogers.

    • JP

      all about bell!

  • ChongoDroid

Good call, rogers is the best and the n1 works awesome with spin vox, forget the evo, 4g is overrated, its too big for me at least and don't get me started on the kick stand lol, but to each his own.

  • Ken_felker

    rogers is crap

    U know something…U SUCK!

  • Grant

    Ur Crap!!…Retard

    • Fere

rogers is garbage when it comes to contracts

    • Blaze

I never understood how one person can call another person “crap” or “retard” for stating an opinion especially for companies. Personally I moved from Rogers to Bell and I am not regretting that decision the contract is much better with Bell than with Rogers but I have to say that they both need better phones and all cell phone companies should let people upgrade their phone after 6 months.

well and for a minute I thought CDMA is on the verge of its downfall, but it looks like the war continues.

  • Djtbo

moto droid is pretty tight… htc desire aint so bad either

    • Young Jarred

The HTC desire is identical to the HTC EVO, i know i own both. I jut moved up from Utah and still have my HTC evo active for personal reasons. But own the HTC desire because it was the closet to the EVO. the only difference is the stand, front facing camera and the screen size. But identical in every way besides those three features.

  • No

Well Thanks again to Canada that protect us From the Evil Sprint, Verizon And/Or At&t (i can add ESPN, HBO… and on and on) To Reply to some Coment about Rogers they still got a pretty Poor Coverage in my area so i got to stick with Bell or Telus CDMA.
