HTC has already published their Marshmallow plans and now Motorola has provided theirs as well. Below is a list of devices that Motorola is planning to bring Android 6.0 Marshmallow to:
- 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen)
- 2015 Moto X Style (3rd gen)
- 2015 Moto X Play
- 2015 Moto G (3rd gen)
- 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (2nd gen)
- 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia2 (2nd gen)
- 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE2 (2nd gen)
- DROID Turbo
- 2014 Moto MAXX
- 2014 Moto Turbo
- Nexus 6
For the most part, the list is what we expected to see but there are definitely some glaring omissions. First off, are all 2014 Moto X’s getting updated to Marshmallow or are only the Pure Edition and Latin, Europe and Asia versions getting it (I sure hope that’s not the case). The 2013 Moto X also failed to make the list as did the 2013 Moto G and any Moto E. This list could obviously change down the road and hopefully it will change to include more of Moto’s offerings.
Motorola also announced that a few of their apps and services will be phased out as Marshmallow rolls out. These include Moto Assist, Motorola Migrate and Motorola Connect. Android Marshmallow has features similar to Moto Assist and Motorola Migrate while Motorola stated that several apps similar to Motorola Connect have begun to pop up on the Play Store so they have opted to discontinue their service.
Motorola didn’t provide any time frames for the updates but they have been very quick the last couple of years and I have no doubt they’ll be one of the first, if not thee first, out of the gate one again.
