Google Hosts January 5 Event

Today Google sent out invites for a press conference being held at their California HQ. The company has been quiet so far on details except that the event will be Android focused, as indicated by the invite.

Considering the news regarding the “Google Phone” or Nexus One in the last few weeks, it is very likely that the event will be a device unveiling.

If the device is showcased at the event, we’re hoping to hear some carrier specific talks, as news has been scarce regarding carrier agreements for the Nexus One in Canada.

    I don't think there will be any carrier agreements in Canada. I took a look at the specs, and unless I'm missing something, the 3G bands for the Nexus One won't work in Canada. Or at least I should say that the 3G bands for the HTC Magic/Dream/Hero in Canada aren't the same as the Nexus One.

    Ugh, we're still waiting for a Milestone date from Telus while Google is about to announce the new must-have Android phone. Why are Canadian carriers so utterly lame?

    I thought Wind uses the same 3G bands as T-Mobile? That would seem to making buying it online from Google (for $530, according to rumours) and using it on Wind an option.

    In Calgary and Toronto, anyway.

    That would be awesome. Edmonton is an expansion city for Wind in 2010. I could deal with EDGE for a while on Rogers, assuming of course that Wind has decent smartphone data plans. It's hard to tell what a monthly cost would be for a 3G smartphone with data from their website.

    That would be awesome. Edmonton is an expansion city for Wind in 2010. I could deal with EDGE for a while on Rogers, then switch to Wind. $80/mo for their Always Shout Voice Plan + Infinite Mobile Data Plan seems better than what I'm paying for now.
